When Jane Ono, a teacher at Douglas County North, gave her students control over creating their own writing rubrics, something powerful happened. By analyzing model texts together, students didn't just meet expectations, they set higher standards than traditional teacher-created assessments. This is student-centered learning in action, where ownership drives excellence.

🍎 Teacher Appreciation Week is almost here! 🍎
Our teachers and staff make a difference for students every day—through dedication, encouragement, and commitment to learning. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4–8, and we’re excited to celebrate the educators across our campuses.
Families are invited to participate by making a contribution that helps provide meals, small gifts, classroom resources, and professional development opportunities for teachers.
Every contribution - big or small - helps show our teachers how valued they are.

Join us in cheering on our own CEC class of 2021 graduate Luke Henson who will be competing on "Jeopardy!" on March 12th! "I am thankful for Colorado Early Colleges' role in my journey as a lifelong learner, particularly the great texts I read with Ms. Thompson and Ms. Swenson and my years on the Knowledge Bowl team under Mr. Simonds' direction! It was largely with CEC Knowledge Bowl that I prepared the buzzer timing and broad knowledge base that took me to America's favorite quiz show."

Our CEC students participated in the 2026 Charter School Advocacy Day in Denver at the Capitol! This day brought students and staff together to meet with elected officials to discuss the unique needs of charter schools and gain insight into the legislative process and education bills that affect charter schools! What a great learning experience for our students!
