The best things in life aren’t things. They’re people and excellent life advice!
If you are a woman in her 40s, 50s or 60s I hope you feel the courage to say what you really mean instead of trying to placate everyone around you. This is midlife. We are done with that ladies! Especially come perimenopause and menopause. No more stifling thoughts and feelings.
Personal evolution can be as simple as taking into account the things that irritate you and firmly setting boundaries around those things. Finally saying “no.” Finally permitting yourself to admit you’re irritated to begin with! It really is that simple.
I know it can be frustrating when dealing with an elderly loved one whose memory is failing — but remember to lead with love and empathy.
If you are navigating: menopause, mid life, raising adult children, an empty nest, a divorce, a long marriage in a lull, a loss of loved one, a new caretaking role, retirement, a new job — you need to read my book Where Lost is Found. It is a navigational tool book for those entering a new life season.
I simply do not have the bandwidth for tracking calories, keeping up with fad diets, getting into feuds with the neighbors over trivial things. I just can’t do it anymore. And I’d encourage you to question the things you’re giving your time and energy to as well. Are they helping you navigate this new life season?
I know you don’t want to hear it but it’s the truth - change and growth is hard. But in this mid life, you need to put in the work to get the life you’ve always wanted.
Life is too short to keep your thoughts and emotions bottled up like a fine wine that you never drink or offer to anyone. Say what’s been on your mind, speak your truth, and trust that the people you need to say it to can handle it. And if they can’t? That’s not your responsibility. It’s theirs. Their reaction is not your responsibility - a little louder for the ladies in the back. 😉
For all you parents of 2026 graduates — congrats to YOU! You also made it through. And regardless of how you both got there — you and your child got there.
