Have you ever wanted to do a little more for the HR community and grow your leadership skills? Now’s your chance—nominate yourself or a colleague to serve as a volunteer leader on the ARSHRM State Council.

The Arkansas SHRM State Council is currently accepting nominations for the following vacant 2027 officer positions:

• State Director Elect
• Secretary
• Core Leadership Area Director
• College Relations Director
• Membership Engagement Director

The nomination acceptance deadline is Monday, August 17, 2026.

State Director Elect serves as an "understudy" to the state council director. Works with the state council director to establish and maintain policy, strategies and objectives. Provides guidance to volunteer leaders for accomplishing state and SHRM objectives. This person will normally serve a two-year term, followed by serving as State Director for another two years, and finally Past State Director for one year. Nominee must be a current 2026 State Council Officer and SHRM certified. Some travel is required to SHRM-invited training events. SHRM Volunteer Leader credential highly desirable.

Secretary prepares the proceedings of all state council meetings, takes minutes, maintains the records. Prepares and distributes meeting announcements and a draft agenda; prepares follow-up material, ensures records accurately reflect business matters and prepares reports associated with council meetings and activities. This person will serve a two-year term. SHRM certification highly desirable.

Core Leadership Area (CLA) Director provides direction and assistance to the State Council’s six core area directors in promoting information and support in areas critical to SHRM’s mission to advance the profession and serve HR professionals. This position will ensure the state council creates goals and implements activities that are aligned with SHRM CLA objectives. This person will serve a two-year term. Previous experience serving as a CLA chair at the chapter or state council level highly desirable.

College Relations Director promotes student chapter growth and activities within the state. Communicates state and SHRM goals and policies relative to student chapters and student membership to the chapters in the state. Serves as the de facto Students/Volunteers Chair for the state conference committee. This position reports to the CLA Director and will serve a two-year term.

Membership Engagement Director promotes membership activities in chapters, particularly assuring that chapter membership directors have access to resources necessary to recruit at-large SHRM members to chapters, local chapter only members to SHRM, and non-affiliated HR professionals to both organizations. Provides recruiting and retention strategies to chapters. This position reports to the CLA Director and will serve a two-year term. Some travel is required to SHRM-invited training events. SHRM certification highly desirable.

We encourage members to self-nominate or nominate another local chapter member you feel would be interested. We will contact all nominees and confirm their interest in serving. If you are interested in more than one position, please let us know.
