Bergen student Madison Minervini received the $5,000 Ciccone Scholarship to study abroad in Rome, Italy this past summer!

Minervini received the scholarship from the Bergen Community College Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to supporting the financial needs of Bergen students. She studied at the American University of Rome, where she earned college credits while gaining a broader perspective through international education.

“As someone with strong Italian roots and family connections to Italy, I felt Rome would be the perfect place to immerse myself in the culture, history, and language while continuing my education,” said Minervini.

Bergen’s NJ STARS students and alumni shined at the Meadowlands Chamber of Commerce’s Arline Simpson Awards!

At the awards ceremony, the NJ STARS program engaged in meaningful conversation with chamber leaders about workforce development and future career paths. Among the NJ STARS attendees was Bergen alumna and Class of 2026 Valedictorian Alexie Kotfisz, as well as Bergen NJ STARS Coordinator Julia Gibson.

Connecting with the chamber leaders reinforced NJ STARS as not just a scholarship program, but a learning community where relationships, opportunities, and partnerships shape student success.

“From the moment I stepped into my first classroom, I knew I belonged in the field of education,” said Bergen alumna Tiffany Agosto, ‘25.

As Agosto pursued her associate’s degree, she enrolled her children in Bergen’s Child Development Center (CDC) where she was supported as a mother and a student. The CDC offered high-quality early childhood education to Agosto’s children as she took classes to advance her career.

She then completed her education fieldwork at the CDC, which gave her in-classroom experience as a teacher. Agosto is now earning her bachelor’s degree in education from Montclair State University.

“The CDC staff didn’t just mentor me as a future educator, they supported me as a parent,” said Agosto.
