ADHD inattentive type is often the ADHD that gets missed.
These children are not usually the loudest in the room. They may appear dreamy, quiet, forgetful, distracted, or “away with the fairies” — while internally working incredibly hard to keep up.
What looks like laziness, lack of motivation, or not listening is often a brain struggling with attention regulation, processing, organisation, and mental overload.
Many children with inattentive ADHD spend years misunderstood before anyone recognises what is really going on underneath.
Which one do you recognise most?

If your child falls apart after school, this is why.
They’ve spent the whole day holding it together.
Following rules. Managing noise. Navigating friendships. Pushing down big feelings.
And then they get home…
To the place where they feel safest.
So the emotions come out.
Not because they’re being difficult.
But because their nervous system can finally exhale.
After-school restraint collapse isn’t bad behaviour.
It’s the release of a brain that’s been working incredibly hard all day.
When we understand this, we stop trying to “fix” the reaction…
And start supporting what’s underneath it.

When your child falls apart after school, it can feel confusing — especially when you’ve been told they’ve 'been fine all day'.
But what you’re seeing at home isn’t bad behaviour. It’s the release after holding it all together.
This post explains what after-school restraint collapse really is, why it happens, and how masking and daily pressure build up beneath the surface.
If this is your child, you’re not alone — and you’re not getting it wrong.
