It’s so important to have a team of teachers who are comfortable and welcome being outside with children, in the natural world. In our case, the garden.

Often times, we have had staff who were unwilling to go outside on days with bad weather, like on rainy days or when it’s cold out.

However, if you’ve ever noticed, many children seem to enjoy all kinds of weather. Especially, if properly dressed.

A teacher who invites a child to explore outside, and supports their wondering with descriptive language and ideas, makes their experience all the more meaningful.

Shout out to Ms. Mary! We love you and we are so glad you’re one of our teachers. :)

It's a beautiful day in our neighborhood! Hope it's beautiful where you are too.

Of course that depends on how you see it! When you look at the photos and videos, put yourself in their shoes.

What are they thinking? What questions are they answering? To me, it's always a beautiful day when I see the world through their eyes.

Natural science is the study of the natural world, and in the garden children get to explore it through direct experience.

Through hands-on encounters with flowers, plants, weather, insects, and animals like salamanders, children engage real natural science in action. They begin to understand life cycles, habitats, change, observation, and the interconnectedness of living things.

The garden becomes a place where science is not only taught, but experienced.

It’s almost SPRING. It’s the best time of the year. We are transforming our front yard into a beautiful Garden Play Oasis and everyone is helping! Planting seeds, moving soil, and working together. It’s an amazing process and we can’t wait to see what this Spring will look like when it’s all done!

Nature supports children—but it also supports us.
It slows the day, softens the nervous system, and invites us into relationship rather than control.
When we teach outdoors, we are reminded that we are guides, not directors.

Seven years ago we started something wonderful: A garden where children could play, learn, explore, and just be. We’ve learned a lot and grown a lot. We are going to keep growing, learning and exploring this fascinating early life experience. Join us in the garden on our journey!

I love my work. I love what I get to do everyday. It’s a joy and a privilege to be with children. Sure, there are tough moments and tough days. It’s a lot of work caring for little ones as most carers know but there are also really good moments. Moments that inspire me and give me hope for the future, for how humans could be when they’re valued, appreciated and loved by others.

I feel a sense of usefulness creating a space where children are properly supported to be creative, investigative, learners and stewards of the world. :) And the more my students grow, the more my “usefulness changes to a uselessness”; and so then I will have done my job well.

For children.
For beauty.
For gardens.
For growth.
For life.
For peace.
For fun.
For joy.
For nothing.
For everything.
