It’s Wildlife Wednesday!
This week’s animal is brought to you by the state of NORTH DAKOTA where Black-Footed Ferrets are commonly found.
Black-footed ferrets are small mammals native only to North America. They have distinctive black masks, feet, and tail tips, and they live almost entirely underground. Black-footed ferrets usually live alone. They only come together to breed or to raise their young. These nocturnal, carnivorous predators are crucial for healthy grasslands and eat mostly prairie dogs; one ferret may eat over 100 prairie dogs in a year. The remainder of their diet includes mice, rats, ground squirrels, rabbits, birds and occasionally reptiles and insects. Black footed ferrets are critically endangered with only 300 to 500 left in the wild.

It’s Wildlife Wednesday!
This week’s animal is brought to you by the state of OKLAHOMA where Roadrunners are commonly found.
Roadrunners are among the few birds that prefer running to flying. They can sprint at speeds of 20 to 27 miles per hour. They are fierce predators that eat small mammals, reptiles, insects, and snakes. They often kill rattlesnakes by bashing them against rocks. These birds have X-shaped feet, which help them with balance while they run. Roadrunners have a distinctive, shaggy crest of feathers on top of their heads. They can voluntarily raise or lower this crest to express emotions, often raising it when excited, aggressive, or nervous.
