Sometimes, it’s what you’re doing with the solution that’s contributing to the problem.

During a Korean lash lift, Step 1 solution can end up on the eyelid, especially between the lash line and the base of the flat shield.

Here’s where things can go wrong.

You remove the flat shield, immediately apply your lifting shield, and unknowingly trap residual Step 1 solution against your client’s skin.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲. 😬

These solutions are formulated to chemically restructure the hair. They’re not meant to remain unnecessarily on your client’s skin.

And let’s be clear. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲. Thioglycolate systems can cause skin irritation too.

✨ Before switching shields, gently remove any residual Step 1 solution from the eyelid with a moistened cotton swab, as directed by your product’s protocol.

If you trained with thioglycolate, you remember THE rule:

𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗣 𝟭 𝗡𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗢𝗨𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗧𝗜𝗣𝗦.

The question was where to stop.
Halfway up the lash? ¾? 😩

Because thioglycolate 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

I trained for 5 major thioglycolate brands for more than a decade. I staggered placement. I protected the tips. I taught the protocols.

And I watched what thioglycolate did to the integrity of the lash—sometimes immediately, sometimes over time. 😶‍🌫️

Then came 𝗖𝗬𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗘. 💎

Gentler. It doesn’t migrate beyond the point of application, which means it can be applied along the entire lash length.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁.

So when cysteamine started getting criticized for being “too slow,” apparently the answer became:

𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿.

Take CYSTEAMINE Add TGA or ETG. 👉🏼Call it “𝗛𝗬𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗗.”

Once you add TGA or ETG to a cysteamine system, it no longer behaves like a cysteamine-only system. Thioglycolates change the processing chemistry. It may contain cysteamine, but you’re now working with thioglycolate chemistry — and it needs to be treated that way.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿.
𝗪𝗲’𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱.

Before:

𝗗𝗢. 𝗡𝗢𝗧. 𝗧𝗢𝗨𝗖𝗛. 𝗧𝗛𝗘. 𝗧𝗜𝗣𝗦.

Now?

When 𝗰𝗮𝗻 it touch the tips?
How long is “a little bit”?
When do you remove it?
How do you remove it?
Cleanse? pH balance?
Condition the tips while the rest keeps processing?

A 𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 “𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿.” 😰
