Shame has a way of making everything feel stuck.

It tells us:
I’m a bad parent.
I always mess this up.
Something is wrong with me.

And when we believe that, it becomes harder to repair, learn, or try again.

Self-compassion gives us another way.

It does not excuse hard moments.
It helps us understand and learn from them.

What happened?
How did it feel in my body?
What thoughts or memories did it bring up in me?
What unmet wants/needs or skills might help me show up differently next time?

Shame keeps us frozen.

Self-compassion helps us learn, grow, and begin again.

And beginning again is where reconnection and repair become possible.

Practice sharing your calm instead of your chaos. Watch the replay of Feelings Friday: Co-Regulation in Action here: bit.ly/Co-Regulation-In-Action

The first few weeks of school are basically procedure boot camp. Bathroom breaks, water bottles, turn-in trays, movement breaks, substitute expectations, cleanup routines, and more all need to be taught, practiced, and practiced again.

🔖 Future you will be grateful for this list of must-teach classroom procedures and routines. Save this list and check out the full list in the comments! 👇

A child who lies is not always trying to be sneaky or disrespectful.

Sometimes they are trying to avoid shame.
Avoid anger.
Avoid the feeling of disappointing someone they love.

The truth can feel risky when a child is worried that connection might be lost.

This does not mean we ignore the lie.

It means we respond in a way that makes honesty more possible next time.

Steady.
Clear.
Curious.
Connected.

“You can tell me the truth. I will help you with what happens next.”

Safety makes room for truth, accountability, and repair to grow together.
