Easter is around the corner -- thinking about a rabbit?

-Please research before you make the 8-10 year commitment. Rabbit.org is *the best* go-to for anything and everything rabbit!

-Please adopt, don't shop. PetFinder.com is a great way to find adoptable rabbits that have been spayed/neutered and vaccinated for RHDV2! In many cases, the adoption fee is better than free. ❤️

-Mayne you're not quite ready for the 8-10 year commitment. That's ok! You can still get in the Easter spirit with some fun plushies!

RHDV2

Highly contagious. Highly deadly. You might have heard it referred to as "Rabbit Ebola" -- the first symptom is death and bleeding from orifices.

If it's been identified in your state, chances are your State Vet has approved import of the vaccine against it. RHDV Information Page is a wonderful resource. There is also a group called North Americans RHDV2 Group . If you join the group, be sure to answer the questions and play by the rules. This is a great way to learn about vets with vaccines.

Until your rabbit is vaccinated, practice biosecurity measures, such as taking shoes off before entering the home and disinfecting anything that comes in contact with the outdoors. You can also find more information on rabbit.org

A few weeks ago, our hu-mom was part of a transport with a pit-stop for an RHDV2 vaccination for these two gorgeous buns - - McDuff and McBeth.

Please note that hu-mom doesn't approve of keeping rabbits outdoors and our visitors were only there temporarily. RHDV2 has been identified in our state, but not our region. If the hadn't just been vaccinated three days prior, they would have been invited in, but for baby bunny's sake, hu-mom practice biosecurity measures while ensuring her travel buddies stayed cool and had a chance to stretch between the next leg
She also tried to clean them up as much as she could. Poor bunny friends were dirty ☹️

But now, they are in good hands and will know love. We hope the perfect human(s) adopt them soon and love them forever. They are SO lovable!!!!

We will take time and caution when we prepare to bond our two bonded pairs. Bonding varries from rabbit to rabbit -- as does the time involved because bonding can't be rushed.

RHDV2 - What the heck is it?

It's a DEADLY, CONTAGIOUS, HARD TO KILL DISEASE that's spreading in the Southwest region of North America.

The first symptom? Death.

The bright side: If you're in state with a reported infection, your State Vet has the power to allow vets to import vaccines against RHDV2.

How do you know if you're in an infected state? Great question! Check out the outer range map included in this post, current as of Thursday, July 30, 2020. (Courtesy of James Wilson -- many thanks!)

If you are in an infected state and your vet doesn't carry the vaccine, there's people networking and listing vets for the greater good of buns here:

It's been a while since we posted -- but we have some GRRRREAT news!

Remember our foater friend ? She was matched with her forever home July 12th! And y'all, she is living the good life!!!! We adore her new family.

Yes, we miss her little fuzzy butt so much -- and her bink bop dancwa.... but our hearts are full knowing she will be loved FOREVER by her incredible humans.

The cycle of fostering is bitter sweet and beautiful. We love you Lizzie!

The Great Lettuce Caper

Picture 1: Munching on the couch, Periwinkle acted like it was an ordinary day. I, however, noticed a piece of romaine lettuce on a cushion. (This was not Ted's doing because his disability doesn't allow him to jump high enough to get on couch.)

Picture 2: A closer look at the lettuce. Hu-mom carefully removed it and passed it off to Hu-dad, frustrated that Periwinkle would do such a thing. Hu-dad then gave it to Ted.

Picture 3: Periwinkle jumped up on the couch, puzzled. Her face looked as if it were saying "Where is my lettuce?"

Picture 4: Another look. "Hu-mom, have you seen my lettuce?" I keep a straight face.

Picture 5: Perplexed, Periwinkle returns to the serving tray. No romaine to be found. For the rest of the evening, she looked for her stash.... Never to find it.

It is important that if you choose to join these groups you understand and respect the fact that the focus is rabbit health. Read the rules, and if you agree to them, play by them. Too many of us rabbit lovers are depending on this group for factual information and *no drama*. I'm on , but realize not everyone in those groups are -- so if it doesn't apply, I scroll on by. The admins want to focus on educating the rabbit community in the name of rabbit health, and not have to spend energy putting out fires.
