Today we brought to life the book 1,2,3 to the Zoo 🦁 🦛 🐍 by Eric Carle. All we used for this awesome activity was the jumbo wooden train set & assorted animal toys. The benefits of bringing books to life for kids are numerous. It helps children -
•ignite their imagination
•develop curiosity
•understand reality from make believe
•develop cognitive, social & communication skills.

And if you thought that was awesome, it doesn’t stop there, through this particular activity we also had oodles of fun -
•counting
•making animal sounds
•identifying animals
•developing hand eye coordination
•developing motor skills
•identifying colours
•identifying different compartments on a train 🚂

STORY TIME~ Hi 👋 Everyone, welcome to another session of story 📚 time with me, Miss Meryse. Today I’ve chosen “Today is Monday” by Eric Carle. I love singing 🎤 this book to kids in my class. It’s a fantastic way to learn the days of the week, discuss food groups & explore the important topic of inclusivity & including children with special needs in all we do. ~Sensory bins are a fantastic way to teach toddlers & babies 👶 some complex concepts like the metamorphosis of a butterfly 🦋. Today our rainbow 🌈 rice & oat meal sensory bin featured mini beasts!!! We also explored the metamorphosis of a butterfly 🦋 as we read The Very Hungry Caterpillar together. And we read 10 little ladybugs because reading & singing is awesome for language development. The benefits of sensory play you ask, here are a few-
* Develops Neural connections that last a lifetime are made as children look, touch & feel the different textures, colours etc.

*development of fine motor skills & hand eye coordination

*Wonderful for language development as children learn the names of different minibeasts & how to describe them as they play.

~Learning to recognize food groups is always fun when you can touch, feel, see, taste & smell the different flavours, textures & colours. We followed this matching game up with a taste & smell session that was oodles of fun. Using all our senses helps build more neural pathways & early connections that last a lifetime. ~

Dear Zoo is a fantastic book for teaching babies, toddlers & children their Animals. Do it together with animal figures 🦒 🦔 🦓 🦁 🐪 & see how much fun learning can be. To make it more suitable for older kids simply bring out a ruler & ask them to measure the animals or package the animals up & play a guessing game of which animal they think may be in there. It’s great for colour recognition too as each package from the zoo is a different colour. Enjoy this one!
