🐷🐷🐷🐺
Our week was full of the three little pigs and the big bad wolf! To end our week we built all three of the pigs’ houses and had the big bad wolf (fan) try to blow them down! The students worked in groups of two or three to make their designated house. I gave them the materials and let them try to figure out what they wanted to do. I encouraged them to talk with their partner (s) about their ideas before they started.

As you can imagine with preschoolers, they started trying to do things individually without talking to their partner. So I modeled how to tell a partner an idea, then we all practiced. We (my para and I) coached them along as needed. Then they began building. They really weren’t sure what to do, so we tried asking some questions without telling them what to do. What do houses have to help them stay up? (walls) If you built walls how many would you need? Our kids said one wall. We asked if they thought a house with one wall would stay up… they said no. I mentioned they could count the walls in our room. They did and said there were four.

Teacher takeaways: 🐷My students didn’t know how to work together/talk to each other on instinct; in fact with coaching it was even difficult for some. 🐷My students would have benefitted from a discussion and a look at houses (play house, small dollhouse, photos, videos, etc) to understand the structure better. 🐷My students loved the anticipation of if the houses would be blown away. 🐷My students enjoyed the hands on activity and didn’t even realize they missed time in centers. 🐷My students were cooperating and not arguing as they tried working together. 🐷They needed more coaching than I thought, but then I realized we had not tried something like this before.

🐷But they had fun, made good observations and predictions, and had a basic understanding of why they houses didn’t fall down. It was a fun learning activity!

A BIG THANKS to Ozark High School’s YEPO (Youth Empowerment Project Ozark) for awarding our classrooma grant for $276 worth of table toys and task box manipulatives! These items will help promote fine motor skills, language skills, social skills and more! The students have already been enjoying the Three Bear house from Learning Resources during our Size Order & Homes theme!

YEPO is a high school organization that promotes volunteering and giving back to the community. Each year they award grants, this year the grants totaled around $2000. Five different district classrooms/departments received the funds.

Thanks again!

An easy fine motor activity. Cut out the box and glue it down. Then decorate it- stripes to make a pattern if desired. And add a bow. You could take it a step further and make it a lift the flap (just glue top of box to paper) and add the child’s picture under it. Make it a display with the title “Our precious gifts”.

Targets using school tools:
Cutting skills
Gluing skills
Marker skills

If targeting patterns, then you can gather data on that as well!

Circle Time is always interactive and fun!
•Following/saying the path of movement for T
•High Five Letter Tt button
•High Five Number 5 button
•Counting the coins on a ten frame

•Then we identified pictures that are yellow (on board):
1. Yellow backpack- what do we do with it?
2. Yellow banana- what do we do with it? (Eat it),
Are there any other pictures on our board that we eat? (Apple and oranges) Bananas, apples, and oranges are all _____.
3. Yellow softball (kids said baseball) I showed them a picture of a baseball . Asked how are they the same? Different? Then shared the different names.

•We looked at a photo of a child and identified how they felt (frustrated). We decided what zone they were in (yellow) and discussed what strategies they could use to get ready to learn.

This was part of our circle time and it is packed full of learning, while involving the students! The students stay engaged and love the fast paced components!
