I am so, so proud of my 6th Grade Choir students. Last week we gathered most of the students from our 4 sections to complete the Graduation Day sight singing lesson of Dale Duncan's S-Cubed Level 1 together! πŸŽ“

Video 1 is our warm up, 2 is the Chaos portion of our process where students get 3-5 minutes to practice, 3 is the actual sight singing example, and 4 is one of the classes moving on to the 7th grade curriculum.

We have incredible elementary music teachers at our feeder schools, but even so, many of these kids were brand new beginners to sight singing last August. This curriculum is great for uniting singers of all experience levels. The amount of growth they have achieved this year is just amazing to me. Way to go, singers! 🎡😍

Our last concert was Tuesday, May 10th! Congratulations on a fantastic year, singers. I sure will miss you ❀️

Back in March, 5 small ensembles and 20 soloists participated in our annual Solo & Small Ensemble Festival! So proud of their dedication and courage - solo & small ensemble can be quite nerve wracking for young singers, but they rocked the house!

You will receive your certificates and medals at the end of year Awards Assembly πŸŽ΅πŸ’•πŸ‘

What an awesome day! 😁

Each of the OMS Choirs competed at Music In the Parks today. 6th Grade, 7th Grade Boys, 7th Grade Girls 1, and 7th Grade Girls 2 all brought home 1 Superior Ratings. 🎡❀️

Josie Kinser won Outstanding Vocalist for her beautiful solo in Light of a Clear Blue Morning πŸŽ€πŸ™Œ

Pictured is not all of the students who competed, but those who attended Silver Dollar City and the Awards Ceremony. We will take photos with all who competed this week at school (send any photos you took throughout the day to Mrs. Vomund, please!)

So proud of these students and all of their hard work this year! Go Ozark!

6th Grade Choir keeps on crushing these Re Fa La and Ti skips! So very proud of them.

They sang this perfectly the first time. As I watched them practice, I saw so many of them using the tools we have been practicing to figure out the skips they were having trouble with. They are certainly becoming Smart Singers!

We use S-Cubed Level 1 (a modified version, since we meet half as often as the curriculum was designed for). It works wonders with beginners!

6th Grade Choir has started learning to subdivide (we call it doubling) in order to sight read music that has eighth notes & syncopation...they did so well today, they asked to sing the example in a round and totally rocked the house!

This is only 1 section of 4. We can't wait to see what we can read when we're all combined! 🎼🎡❀️

In July, we found out that the 7th Grade Girls Choir II had been chosen to perform at the 82nd Annual Missouri Music Educators Association In-Service Workshop/Conference. Only 10 choirs in the state, elementary through college level were chosen for this incredible honor. To say we were excited would be an understatement!

These students have worked so hard since the first day of school to prepare for this concert. The audience at MMEA usually consists of 500 people or more! Music educators from all over Missouri gather at the conference to receive professional development through sessions and high caliber performances. This makes for a very unique audience and special concert for singers and directors.

I could not be more proud of these students, or more grateful for the experience we shared on January 22nd. These singers persevered through many obstacles and uncertainties - masks/distancing last year, many snow days, even a school shut down as covid surged. They remained optimistic and hard working throughout, and I learned so much from them as we powered through the hardest parts of January. We are so excited to share our recordings with you once we have received them.

To the 7th Grade Girls Choir II: You are a joy to teach. I am incredibly lucky to be your director. Thank you for your dedication and all that you have taught me, and congratulations on a stunning performance!

What an incredible day!!!

Today the Nixa Discovery Singers and Ozark 7th Grade Girls Choir II had a combined Pre-MMEA concert, and both choirs were just incredible! I am so proud of the way my students performed, and it was an honor to share the stage with the amazing Discovery Singers and their director .

Running the entire MMEA set for the first time was absolutely exhilarating. I was a complete emotional mess experiencing it with my students - I just thank the universe every day that I get to be their director. They are so kind, hard working, passionate, and all around brilliant. I am so ready for the next few weeks and to show you all what they can do on January 27th. ❀️🎼🎡

Our Winter Choir Concert was such a successful night! Our choirs were able to sing 8 of our 9 prepared songs before the shelter in place was announced. I am just so proud of our students, and so grateful that we were safe.

The only song we didn't get to perform was our combined 6/7 choir Sing We Now of Christmas...it's just too epic to miss out on, so we will be performing it on our Spring Concert. Christmas songs are acceptable in April, right? β€πŸŽ„

THANK YOU to all administrators who helped keep us safe, my fellow middle school teachers who attended our concert and sprang into action, and to the 1,000+ audience and 250 singers who responded so calmly. I am truly blessed to direct Ozark Middle School Choirs teach in Ozark Schools. 🎡

Adding this to my Teacher Chronicles - as a success and crazy story! πŸ€ͺ

Mr. Zac Stelzer came to our classes today to help us prepare for our upcoming concerts, and Oh. My. Gosh. We had the BEST time.

We worked on expression, breath, tone, and more, and laughed a TON along the way. If you ever have the opportunity to see him teach or bring him into your classroom, DO IT!

Thank you Mr. Stelzer! 🎡😁🎼
