OPS Budget 2024-25: Did You Know?
Why do we have a K-5 Literacy Coach in next year’s budget? One of our teachers stated “Learning is meant to be joyful, motivating, and invigorating. Nothing shows successful reading instruction better than a student exclaiming, “I got it!” With a smile on their face and a sparkle in their eyes after reading a word or passage. A dedicated SOR (Science of Reading) Literacy Coach would support teachers and learners to make this a universal reality.”

Thanks to Mrs. Hovan & Mrs. Angelovic for bringing author Katie Woods to GOES & OMS! Katie shared powerful lessons from "A Simple Seed Journal" about the impact of our choices and the value of kindness and a growth mindset. Appreciation to the Oxford PTO for funding this inspiring visit!

Congratulations to Coach Joe Stochmal for being named the 2023 Coach of the Year by the Casey-O'Brien New Haven County Chapter of NFFCHOF. This past season, he coached our OHS Football Team to their first playoff appearance with a record of 9-2. Coach Stochmal retired from his OHS Football Coach position and we are proud of his recognition and contributions to the program. Congratulations Coach Stochmal!

Oxford teachers support the need for a K-5 Literacy Coach. One Oxford teacher stated “A literacy coach would be critical in our continued development to support our students as readers. With the new push for SOR (Science of Reading), a literacy coach would provide invaluable support to our teachers and students as we navigate the new reading initiatives. A coach within the district would provide support to our students in real time to improve student growth and achievement and would provide teachers with assistance in implementing instructional strategies and practices. A literacy coach would be an impactful advancement to our district! “

Big News! After medical and municipal pensions have gone down, our budget request is now 4.12%. Our budget includes five new positions: 5th grade teacher, Literacy Coach, Coordinator of Student Conduct, Librarian, and Director of Security. Without these five positions our budget increase would have been a 3.10% increase. View our updated budget book using the QR code.
