For generations, the commissioning of officers in the United States Navy and Marine Corps has marked the transition from student to leader, a tradition rooted in honor, service, and commitment to something greater than oneself. Over this past weekend, our unit had the privilege of continuing that tradition as we honored and commissioned our newest officers. Through years of hard work, sacrifice, leadership, and perseverance, these seniors earned the title and responsibility. We could not be more proud of everything they have accomplished and of the example they have set within our unit. The future of the Navy and Marine Corps is brighter because of you. Keep your powder dry, and remember to never drop pack.

Congratulations to our April MoM, MIDN 4/C Williams!
“For exceptional initiative, leadership, and excellence, MIDN Williams has distinguished himself through his outstanding efforts in planning and executing 2nd Platoon morale events. He demonstrated superior organizational and communication skills while coordinating a platoon rec event, effectively working with HELM to secure funding and ensuring adequate lane reservations at Oxford Lanes to support full participation. He maintained clear and consistent communication with both the platoon staff and subordinates, ensuring all personnel were informed and engaged throughout the planning and ex*****on process. In addition, MIDN Williams took the initiative to plan and coordinate a platoon volunteer event, proactively engaging 11 MIDN with the community to earn 31.5 volunteer hours for his platoon. His superior performance and academic discipline, evidenced by earning a 4.0 GPA last semester, reflect great credit upon himself and the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit Miami University.”
Also congratulations to this semester’s Honor Platoon, 3rd Platoon! Way to go!

❗️ FIRST CLASS FRIDAY ❗️
This week we’re highlighting MIDN 1/C Duncan Glenn, a Mathematics major selected for the Submarine community!
MIDN 1/C Glenn is from Austin, Texas. One of his favorite NROTC memories has been Presidential Review, where he gets to see his family come watch and share in how proud they are of everything he has accomplished at Miami.
Outside the unit, he enjoys rowing, listening to music, hiking, working out, and reading. He also enjoys making the most of his college experience by staying involved and trying new things.
His “Why”:
“I wanted to challenge myself while being part of something bigger than myself and serving alongside motivated people.”
Advice to underclassmen:
“Study hard and go out and take advantage of being at college. Obviously our job here is to be students and make good grades, but take advantage of the opportunities we’re given here. Join a club, a sports team, make friends, workout, take a dancing class; there is almost no limit to what someone can do or experience out here and it’s up to you to make the most of it.”

On Friday, 24 April, Miami University NROTC conducted our spring semester battle drill. An extended physical training event that takes place in different areas around campus. The Midshipmen execute the evolution in small teams, and the event concludes with the company sharing a meal together to celebrate the successes of the semester.

On Tuesday, the 21st, and Thursday, the 24th, Miami NROTC participated in our annual company shoot. Midshipmen receive safety and marksmanship training from instructors and are able to shoot a variety of small arms over several different courses of fire.
Thank you to the Talawanda Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America for continuing to support this event for our Midshipmen.

Presidential Review is a tradition rooted in military heritage, where units assemble, are inspected, and march in formation to demonstrate discipline, pride, and unity. Originating from formal troop inspections used by commanders to assess readiness, the Pass and Review has evolved into a ceremonial event honoring excellence and service.
On Saturday, Miami University’s midshipmen and cadets carried on that legacy. We recognized outstanding achievement, celebrating dedication, and showcasing the commitment it takes to lead and serve. A proud day of tradition, precision, and well-earned recognition. Congratulations to the midshipmen and cadets for getting their hard work recognized!
