A wonderful book about one of the cultures which have cherished and shared this wonderful tradition and cultural technology of community drumming!
The Healing Drum: African Wisdom Teachings by Yaya Diallo and Mitchell Hall explores the sacred and healing role of music in the Minianka tribe of West Africa, blending anthropology, music, and philosophy to reveal their cultural worldview, which connects music to work, healing, and the cosmos. Published in 1989, the book details the Minianka's use of music for spiritual and social purposes, drawing from Diallo's upbringing in Mali and his training as a musician.

Class this passed saturday was great. We are beginning to work the polyrhythms. Beginners are always welcomed we can fit you into the structure of the rhythm! Also looking for folks who might want to learn some bass drum parts too. Looks like the cold weather is coming back for another go round! stay warm!!
