--Veteran & GIS Professional excited to introduce STEM-focused coding center for children--
Owasso, OK – Coding for kids has gained popularity rapidly in recent years as technology becomes increasingly part
of everyday life. Children who learn to code when they're young can set themselves up for a lifetime of success. Skiatook residents DeEtta and Troy Bumgardner saw an opportunity to realize both the goal of starting a small business and the ability to impact lives when they happened upon the brand Code Wiz. Working with a franchise broker and seeing ideas from temporary drywall systems to duct cleaning, and even upholstery repair, when Code Wiz was presented Troy was immediately drawn in because of his use of python working with GIS for one of Tulsa’s top employers, which is also a leading US natural gas pipeline and infrastructure provider. After speaking with Ruth Agbaji, CEO and Nerd-In-Chief of the growing brand of learning centers offering fun, engaging programming in coding and robotics, they were hooked. DeEtta will bring a process-driven background of nearly 30 years in trucking in transportation, following her service in the Marine Corps as a transport driver, to serve as the Center Director. Troy will be Owasso’s wannabe nerd, along with a diverse group of enthusiastic coaches that will bring coding to life with the kids. The need to give kids a head start in tech with a fun edge is definitely going to catch on! Unlike other coding programs, Code Wiz utilizes a Montessori-style approach and classes are project-based allowing students to explore at their own pace while building confidence and interest. Students learn how to build multi-level video games and create animation, are introduced to Python (the most popular programming language) and build websites in HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Classes include Roblox, Minecraft and Unity, where students can create their own versions of these popular games. For those interested in robotics competitions, Code Wiz invites students to participate in its teams for the national FIRST LEGO League Challenge. The center also offers birthday parties and programs for local Girl Scout troops to earn badges, and off-site classes at community partner locations can also be arranged. The Code Wiz mission is to impact 1 billion children globally through the life of the Code Wiz brand. The Bumgardners are excited to be a part of these beginning stages, making Owasso’s location the very first in Oklahoma. Code Wiz is located at Village Market Shopping Center, 12500 E 86th St N, Suite 102 in Owasso. Their grand opening celebration is set for Saturday, March 23 from 10am - 2pm with free trial classes starting the week before. The event is open to the public and will include interactive coding and robotics demonstrations for the kids, games, giveaways, face painting, balloon animals, snacks and more! FOUNDING FAMILY discounts are currently available at 31.4% to the first 50 families who sign up for regular coding classes. This is limited to the first 50 families and does expire on March 23, 2024 at the Grand Opening event. They are also having a SUMMER CAMP SALE, offering 15% off camp registrations during the month of March. For more information, visit Code Wiz Owasso’s website at https://thecodewiz.com/owasso-ok.
