Congratulations to Jose Gonzalez Garcia! Jose completed NARS this past summer.

He has accepted a position with Union Pacific, out of St Louis, MO, starting November 9.

We know Jose will do well, just as he did throughout the program.

Stay safe out there Jose.

A NARS alumni came by to see us today. Quinlan Keoni, graduated the program in 2022. Within one month he was hired with the BNSF out of Winslow, Arizona, his first choice.

Fast forward four years later, Quinlan is at the technical training center here at the college, going through engineer training.

He has such a positive attitude toward life and work. He said attending NARS gave him a great first exposure to conductor, which made BNSF job training easier because he was applying what he first learned at NARS.

Quinlan’s advice to prospective students: “NARS is a good start, get your foot in the door, learn the rules, and apply them”.

Keep pushing forward, Quinlan, and we are very happy that you dropped by to visit.

Nicholas Watkins attended the Extended Track program during the spring and summer semester this year.

Nicholas came to the program with an agenda in mind and certainly brought that to fruition in record time. Upon completion of the program on 31 July, Nicholas was offered a position with the KAW River Railroad, Kansas City, KS, within a couple of days and starts 31 Aug.

Congratulations to Nicholas and we wish him a safe and prosperous career.

STUDENT HIGHLIGHT.

I want to introduce Joseph Taylor. Joseph attended the program in the past spring and summer semesters.

Many times we speak of railroaders by describing railroad acumen, grit, and perceived ability to do the job. While all of this is true, railroaders are people first and foremost.

While Joseph scored in the top 10% of the class in academics, there is another side that stands out.

We have been around for a long time either railroading or training aspiring railroaders. Joseph presented an attitude of gratitude, compassion, friendliness, and determination throughout his training time. In short, just a good caring person to others.

Joseph will come back to see us to finish up his field training to complete the course when he is able.

I was a pleasure to have Joseph in the class and hope to best of luck to his future endeavors.
