September 15th - 19th
This week in Music 😊💜🎵

• 4th, 5th, and 6th Graders celebrated Earth, Wind, and Fire Day (September 21st) by doing a rhythm stick play along to “September” by Earth, Wind, and Fire! 🌎💨🔥

• 6th Grade focused on ensemble work by breaking down two-part rhythms.

• 5th Grade started learning about the single eighth note and single eighth rest.

• 4th Grade started learning about sixteenth notes.

• 3rd Grade continued working with dotted half notes. We also started learning one of our songs for our November 11th Veterans Day performance.

• 2nd Grade continued working with half notes, started learning about measures and bar lines, and reviewed the song we learned last week for our November 6th performance.

• All three 1st Grade and Kindergten classes earned their first Reward Days!

• 1st Grade learned how to draw quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests.

• Kindergarten played a game using the book “Mary Wore Her Red Dress.”

This week in Music 😊🎵💜

• 4th, 5th, and 6th Grades continued reviewing all of the notes we learned previously so that we can move onto even more complex rhythms.

• 3rd Grade starting talking about our Veterans Day performance by watching a short video about what Veterans Day is and listening to one of the songs we will be performing. We also started learning about and using the dotted half note.

•2nd Grade also started talking about our November performance and even started learning one of the songs. We started learning about and using the half note.

• 1st Grade added the quarter rest to their bank of rhythms this week. We created and performed rhythms as a class that included the quarter rest.

• Kindergarten explored musical opposites by listening to various music and identifying its characteristic; happy/sad, quiet/loud, fast/slow.

• Choir started up this week! We have 64 members, all 5th and 6th Graders - wow!! We reviewed proper singing posture and breath support, and listened to three of our four pieces for the South Area Choral Festival.

After being gone for the first week of September/the first week of color days, I had a blast participating in this week’s color days! I’m always very prepared for the pink and purple days!

Lastly, I am absolutely honored to have received nominations for Teacher of the Year. Seeing nominations from a current family and two former students warmed my heart. Even if I don’t make it past “just” getting these three nominations, I feel so lucky to get to form relationships through music every single day. I truly love my job.

Just some safety reminders as we’re getting used to being back in the school routines 😊

📚🚸 Back to School = Back to Bus Safety! 🚨🛑

Most of our students return to school today, and it's the perfect time for a reminder about school bus safety laws.

🛑 When a school bus displays its stop arm and flashing red lights, ALL vehicles must stop—no exceptions.
✅ This applies to both directions of travel, regardless of how many lanes there are.
🚫 The only exception is when the roadway is divided by a physical median or barrier—then, only the traffic behind the bus must stop.

Let's work together to keep our kids safe as they head back to school. Please stay alert, obey the law, and give school buses the space they need.

Happy FriYAY! Congratulations to all for making it through the first week of school! It’s been a wildly exhausting week, but it was truly so great seeing the kids again! I thought I’d add my “About Me” and my “favorites” to this post to re-introduce myself 😊 Have a great weekend!
