Byte Jam Coding Competition 2025 is wrapped! What an incredible event showcasing software high school and college students were able to build in just three limited days.

We also had 10 Iowa businesses that hire software engineers join us to talk to the students and help judge their projects. These professionals also joined us at the end for a Q&A panel where students could ask anything they wanted about the software engineering field, the future of AI, and where they could fit into it all.

We kicked off our annual coding hackathon called Byte Jam! Here are some college students hard at working building an original project in three days. They will then present to a group of faculty and businesses.

As instructors, we love seeing our students go outside of their comfort zone and attend events that will have a lasting impact on them and their careers.

Today, our Indian Hills Community College software students attended an event where they not only got to interact with current industry professionals and gain important information that they can leverage while looking to start their careers, but they also got to step into the shoes of an engineer at the end of the event and work on creating user stories alongside these industry folks.

One of our instructors (James Warner) discussing the architecture of our last project - an AOL themed chat app - to one of our awesome students! This project was built using Apache Kafka deployed on Amazon EC2, and Java Spring to handle requests and rendering the view to the client.

We're constantly updating our projects and curriculum to match industry needs, and the request to learn Kafka came from one of our local partners this summer. Fun to see it in the classroom already!
