OHS graduation will be here before you know it. Since this graduation will mark the last commitment of my public school career, I'd love it if as many alums as possible could join us for graduation exercises. The ceremony will be held on May 24th at 2:00 p.m. at Bridge View Center. Please message me if you're able to play. We want to be sure there are plenty of chairs! I can give you music ahead of time and if you want to rehearse once before the big day I'd love to have you!

We're working like crazy to get this final concert where we want it. The big selection is a medley of tv sitcom tunes accompanied by a video produced by our illustrious musicians. We did something similar to this a few years ago when we actually did an action movie medley. Like the first one, this medley was arranged by David Sharp. Talitha Ford is our editor and she's leaving very little on the cutting room floor. We've got some budding actors in our orchestra!

Our "Classical" concert was fun and not without some surprises. I loved the audience reaction when we performed the "Farewell" Symphony. It was legit...really. Albinoni' s Adagio was so sensitively done. Ellen's solos were spot on and Tom Shadonix' s assistance was invaluable. We're now preparing for our final concert of the year, the Springfest concert. We have another big project for the entire orchestra and I think everyone will appreciate the students' efforts. That's all for now.

Congratulations, OHS Orchestra and choruses, on a fine Holiday concert. I've received many compliments on your performance and for many, the performance of Sleigh Ride signifies the "official" opening of the holiday season.

Congratulations to the 5/6 string orchestra, the middle school orchestra and the OHS String Orchestra at Tuesday nights' concert. I knew things were going well but upon watching the tape back yesterday I was truly impressed. Mr. Hanson did a fine job of "popping" out of his coffin for the Addam's Family Theme. What a good sport he is. It was a fun concert. To my seniors-this was your first last concert of your high school career. Wow, it doesn't seem possible. Now it's time for preparations for our Holiday Concert on Dec. 7th. "White Christmas", anybody?

Well, I didn't think the rehearsal of the 8th could be topped, but somehow it was. Haydn was so sensitively done and all the selections were so cohesive. The orchestra will perform Addams Family Theme, The Bird and Waltz of the Wicked at the 5-12 concert on October 28th, at 7:00 at OHS.

OHS orchestra just had the best rehearsal ever. We played through our program, recorded it and then listened back and evaluated. Their insight, honesty and collegiality astound me. What a great group of young people. I am blessed.

Orchestral excerpts are posted on the IHSMA website. Who among you will accept the challenge to audition for the high school All State Orchestra. Entries are due toward the end of September.

The kids in orchestra can give themselves a pat on the back. One of our custodians told me all of the chairs in the orchestra room were totally GUM FREE! All 65 of them!

A notice from Remind 101 was sent out, but here's another reminder. Orchestra semester exams will begin at 7:30 Wednesday morning and continue through our shortened first period. Those not finishing will need to come in at 7:30 Thursday morning to complete it unless you make alternate plans with me.
