Ottawa KS Class of 1972

Ottawa KS Class of 1972 Welcome to the page for the Ottawa, Kansas High School Class of 1972.

Fellow classmate’s Craig Bryant has peacefully passed away today at his sister’s home in Ottawa. Craig came to OHS as a transfer student from Salina. He does not have the fond memories many of us do because some of the guys in our class weren’t too welcoming. I’m not saying who but I am saying we all need to know how actions in teen years can take their toll. Craig had a successful life, a lovely daughter and deserves eternal Peace.

I haven't posted on this page for a long time. I am still enjoying playing fun music from the 60s through the 2000s all over the Kansas City area with Green Shoebox Band. Some of our Ottawa friends have seen us at Starlight before the Doobie Brothers or James Taylor. We hope to get something in Ottawa someday but until then, check out all the other community shows we have coming up.

“Hello Classmates! We had a fantastic 50th reunion! We missed everyone who was not able to make it. We all enjoyed seeing one another and catching up on the last 50 years! The evening flew by all too quickly! It is amazing that we still have such camaraderie after all these years! Please click the link below to view our fun photos! A video link will be posted soon! Grapevine has it that we may have another get-together, more informal but just as fun, next year for all who can make it so we can continue catching up with each other! We will be sure to get a “save-the-date” out in plenty of time for everyone to mark their respective calendars! Enjoy the photos! Miss you all already! Gail Strehlow”

Thank you for all the compliments!!! The planners appreciate the kudo's. The planning committee has, as do we all, at this stage of our life, busy lives. Some of us are still employed, some are retired....

Updates will be posted as they are received. The planners are tired...this was a HUGE effort that absolutely was a night no one who was in attendance will forget.

I will post more after I speak to a few people.

In the meantime, please just KNOW that we truly had a unique class and we tried to include every last one of you. It would have been impossible for us to have conveyed to you how OVER the TOP it would be. Many of us could have been professional event planners in all honesty. :)

It was HARD WORK.

Carry On and I will update as soon as I can.
Thank you
Emily

Classmates ~ Just a few more days until our class will be officially reuniting after 50 years! It will be amazing catching up and reconnecting with each other, especially in light of our record reunion turn-out! We planners have worked toward everyone having a truly memorable and enjoyable evening.

Our Saturday evening will begin with a cocktail reception/warm-up to include some yummy passed appetizers and photo booth fun (two photo booths with props!), not to mention a roving magician with some spell-binding card tricks! The lower-level speak-easy will be accommodating for reconnection chat, signature cocktails just for us!, and all of our favorite music from years gone-by. Each level will have it’s own DeeJay and requests will be welcome later on after dinner. During the reception/warm-up please take time to make a guess of how many red and white malted milk balls are in the huge jar you can’t miss on the main floor! First, second, and third cash prizes will be given for the closest respective guesses!

After we’ve had a chance to greet and say “hi” to each other and chat a bit, we will head outside for our class photo which will be very casual. Bring your drink, stand on the porch, sit on the steps, take your shoes off, sit cross-legged on the grass … as long as everyone is between the two end pillars, pose as you like. A photographer and videographer will be joining us to capture the memories of our epic evening.

We will head back in after the photo for an extensive and delicious Jack Stack BBQ catered buffet dinner (come hungry!) followed by a champagne toast to celebrate our 50th graduation year together! As our meal is digesting (!) we will relax to a fun classmate interactive game time, so come prepared with your favorite high school or classmate story to share open mic! Some ideas to spark you memory: most fun time in high school, highlight of senior year, secret crush!, most trouble you got into in high school, first kiss, most notorious prank, date gone wrong!, most meaningful moment, etc. (I have a story!😉). Be ready to share! It’s just us!

Following our interactive game time, we will have an official (short, but sweet!) five-song (three fast and two slow) class dance to 70’s tunes, with the final fast dance being classmates only! (Another club dance will be held later in the evening for all of us who want a little more exercise!).

Finally, cash prizes will be announced and awarded to the winners of the “Goofiest Photo”, “Guess How Many?”, and the Grand Prize Drawing for the $500.00 Door Prize! We have had a number of generous donations from classmates, as well as some charitable anonymous gifts to help make our celebration really fun and memorable. Our class is unique, always was, and very special … ranging all the way from the smartest kids to ever walk the halls of OHS to the most rascally (in a good, fun way!) . Let’s party together like we’re 17 again for one night! See you all Saturday! ~ Gail Strehlow
