As the Trump administration has signaled their intent to dismantle the Department of Education, it is important to understand the implications of this move. Currently, the Department of Education distributes specific funds to support special education students and students from low-income households. The federal government also provides funds to support school lunches. In SD308, about 9 million dollars of our budget comes from federal funds. I think only time will tell what will happen with those funds when/if the Department of Education gets dismantled. This article supposes some things, but the administration has not made clear any specific plans for these funds. Aside from funding, the Department of Education also provides oversight through their office of Civil Rights ensuring that schools are in compliance with federal law.
Trump wants to dismantle the Education Department. Here's what it does
President Donald Trump has said he wants his new education chief, Linda McMahon, to โput herself out of a jobโ and close the Education Department.
