DROWSY BUT AWAKE π§
New parents are constantly bombarded with this sleep advice: Put your baby in their crib or bassinette drowsy, but awake.
However, is this actually good advice?
For tiny newborns- YES! This is a great way to start forming independent sleep habits.
For kiddos past 12 weeks? NO! Drowsy but awake is NOT good advice for this age.
Why? First, what is drowsy? Just a bit tired, eyes almost shut, eyes fluttering, asleep but not totally asleep? NO ONE KNOWS! Also- in the first stage of sleep, many babies have their eyes OPEN! It's true! So you think they are awake..but they are actually in very light sleep. This is a problem because when they go in their crib they are still going to be shocked at how they got there. The result? Lots of night wakings.
For kiddos past the newborn stage, be sure they are fully awake before going into their beds for the best chance of sleeping well at night.
If this feels impossible to you...that's where I come in. Check the links in my bio to learn how I can help your kiddo (AND YOU!) get the sleep you so desperately need.

It's normal to have each night of sleep training get better and better.
It's normal to have sleep get worse before it gets better.
It's normal to have tons of progress...then have a bad night.
It's normal to see the WORST SLEEP EVER, followed by the BEST SLEEP EVER.
It's normal for sleep training to feel like a rollercoaster for a couple weeks.
It is NOT NORMAL to see sleep get worse and never improve.
It's NOT NORMAL to have endless crying for weeks on end.
Is this tricky? YES! Is it common to see parents give up after a few nights and declare sleep training to 'not work'? YES! Is it common for parents to say they've been sleep training for months? Unfortunately yes.
This is when the experience of a sleep coach is invaluable. I'll tell you what's normal and what to expect. I'll tell you to hang on another night because I KNOW sleep beautifulness is right around the corner. I'll tell you to STOP because something isn't right. I'll tell you we need to change things because we aren't seeing the progress we should be.
I keep an eye on you and your baby/toddler through this whole process. You aren't alone. You don't need to make these big decisions on your own. That's what I'm here for.
Ready to have someone be your #1 sleep bestie/cheerleader/wealth of knowledge? You've come to the right place.
