Teamed up with my long time friend Mike Malone today for the 3rd Show Me Tournaments River Series out of Drake Harbor, on the LOZ.

We had a good day catching 10 keeper bass, with our best 5 weighing 13.97 pounds and a 4.67 pound big bass. Wasn’t quite good enough to cash a check though.

As always, great job to Jeremy and Jeff Daniels for running a solid tournament!

Had a great time this morning with Cael and Cane, who are In town for Iowa.

We boated 12 bass this morning and the boys caught a couple of good ones, with one being a 5 pounder and the other, a solid 3 1/2 pounder. They also caught some other keepers in the 2 pound range as well.

No guide trip today. Just a fun day of fishing with one of my most loyal friends, Charles.

We only caught 8 keeper bass today and about 10 other smaller ones. But, our best 5 were quality ones that weighed around 15 pounds. I had one that was pushing 5 pounds, but when I asked Charles to hold it while I grabbed my Bubba scale to weigh it, the bass wiggled and Charles dropped it on the front deck of the boat and then it made one big flop and over the edge of the boat it went and back in the water. 😂. You should have seen Charles face (🫪). It was priceless!I told him that would have been really bad if we were in a tournament!

Michael Harlin Fishing and I took out a group of 4 anglers who are in town from Chicago, for some morning LOZ bass fishing.

It was a cloudy, cool, very windy and light mist, type of morning and it had the bass acting a little weird. But, everyone fished hard and ended up putting some nice bass in the boat. Michael said that his anglers even got into some quick top water action with some schooling white bass! That’s always fun!

One of the best and my personal favorite benefit tournament to fish on the LOZ, is coming up!

The tournament is on September 12, out of Red Oak Resort and is open to anyone who would like to fish. They have a pre-tournament meeting at Red Oak Resort for all participants the day before, on Friday September 11. But, it’s more than just a meeting, they host a big dinner and have a TON of really cool silent auction and live auction items.

The tournament benifiets the St. Louis County Police Family Association.

Come hang out on Friday evening with me and the other anglers at the dinner and then let’s get after it on Saturday in the tournament!

What a difference the cloud cover and slightly cooler temps made for the bass fishing the last two days!

I had a 2 day trip with Evan, Rivers and Loren today and yesterday. Both trips were 8 hour days. If they look familiar, you may recognize them from a few of my past post. This was my 6th time taking all 3 of them out on guide trips in the last year!

The cloud cover worked wonders for us the last couple of days, as it pulled the big bass out from hiding way under the docks in the shade and hard to get to spots. The boys put on a clinic and caught some really nice bass. They even let me catch a couple once in awhile! But they kept me busy with all their fish!

On Tuesday, they boated 37 bass, with 22 of them being keepers. Their best 5 weighed in at 16.4 pounds, with their biggest being a 3.12 pounder.

Today (Wednesday) the bigs showed up! They boated 33 bass today, with 16 of them being keepers. Their best 5 weighed in at 18.5 pounds, with a 4.0 and 5.1 pound kickers!

SOLID two days of fishing, with 70 total bass caught, 38 total keepers, with their two day total weight for their best 10 bass, weighing 34.9 pounds! Very impressive!

Most of the bass were caught on an Apex Tackle Co. jig, paired with either a Bojangle Baits Batwing or Z-Daddy.

Lastly, big shout out to Evan’s Step-Father Jeff, for booking the trips for the boys AND for the best tip ever, as he gave me 2 Misha Wagyu Steaks to cook!

To say fishing is my life and always has been in my blood, is an understatement.

I broke out the OLD fishing photo album this evening. Wow. So long ago. So many memories.

Yes. I did fish a Bassmaster Invitational here at Lake of The Ozarks back in 1996. Back then, it was a 3 day tournament and you fished all 3 days. Each day you were paired with a different partner and would discuss whose boat you would fish from and how you each would share the front of the boat. The entry fee was a mere $800 plus another $100 to joint the Association Of B.A.S.S. Professionals. The first day I was fortunate to use my boat and fished with one of the very first African American Anglers, Alfred Williams. He is now in the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame. We both caught a couple of good bass that day. The second day, I fished with Gary Klien out of his boat and we each only had one small keeper, and on the 3rd day I drew a guy named Jesse Parker out of Texas and we both blanked. It was a tough tournament, but I did weigh in 2 of the 3 days. The announcer the first two days was Dewey Kendrick and the last day was Ray Scott. What an experience it was and I learned alot. Just check out some of those names on the leader board. It was all of the old school heavy hitters back then that made our sport into whet it is today.

The other pictures are from different periods of my life from fishing down in Florida, Georgia, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Illinois and here in Missouri competing in tournaments. It’s been an adventure to say the least and it’s the reason I’m here doing what I do today.
