In a new episode of Cultured Unplugged, Christopher Rudder sits down with Dr. Elizabeth Allan and Jolayne Houtz of StopHazing and HazingInfo to discuss what students, families, and campus communities should know about hazing as the new academic year gets underway.

From recognizing the warning signs to understanding how we can all play a role in prevention, listen to this conversation for important information to carry into the school year: https://www.youtube.com/

Hazing doesn’t always look the way we expect. It can take many forms and happen across clubs, organizations, teams, schools, workplaces, and other group settings.

Understanding what hazing is is an important first step toward prevention.

The Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA) is the first federal anti-hazing law in the United States. Signed into law in 2024, it strengthens campus safety by requiring colleges and universities to:

- Report hazing incidents in Annual Security Reports (Clery Reports)
- Publish Campus Hazing Transparency Reports
- Implement research-informed hazing prevention and awareness programs

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the PNW Anti-Hazing Summit!

We shared two important conversations focused on strengthening hazing prevention efforts across higher education:

Devin Franklin, M.Ed. presented “Building Capacity for Campus Hazing Prevention”, exploring how institutions can create sustainable, campus-wide approaches to prevention.

Meredith Stewart, M.Ed. and Jolayne Houtz co-presented “Bringing Hazing Into the Light: Meeting the Letter and Spirit of the Stop Campus Hazing Act,” discussing how colleges and universities can move beyond compliance to embrace transparency, accountability, and meaningful culture change.

Thank you to the summit organizers and every attendee who is working to create safer, healthier campus communities where every student can belong without harm. We’re honored to be part of this important work!
