When I woke up this morning, I had no idea I would be releasing an ebook.

But as a trauma-informed educator and Calm Strategist with a Criminal Justice background… I couldn’t ignore what I keep seeing.

People are becoming unwilling volunteers in the Criminal Justice system.

Not because they planned to.
But because they reacted.
They escalated.
And in one moment… everything changed.

And let me be clear—no judgment at all.

Because before I learned this method, I was probably the perfect candidate too.

Not because I was “bad.”
But because I didn’t have the tools to regulate in real time.

That’s the part nobody teaches.

So I wrote The Happy Place™ Method.

This is not a self-care book.
This is a system.

A system that teaches you how to:
• notice when you’re escalating
• ground yourself before reacting
• make decisions that protect your future

Because one reaction can cost you more than you think.

The book is officially on the way.

If you want to be the first to know when it drops, comment READY.

🚨 Chicago teacher's aide charged after choking an 8-year-old.
The child suffered serious injuries.
Here's the hard truth:
This probably happened because that aide had no tools when crisis hit.
She acted from emotion. From frustration. From panic.
And that is NEVER okay.
We cannot act from emotion when students are dysregulated.
We cannot respond from frustration when behaviors escalate.
We MUST have tools, strategies, and training to fall back on.
Because when you have no tools, you react instead of respond.
And reactions destroy lives.
If you're working with challenging behaviors without crisis tools:
You are at risk.
Not because you're a bad person — but because emotion-driven responses are dangerous.
Get the tools BEFORE you need them.

❤️ Valentine's Day Truth Nobody Tells Teachers:
You have been in a committed relationship all year long.
Showing up every day.
Giving everything you have.
Loving students who push you away.
Staying consistent even when it's hard.
Choosing patience over and over again.
That is LOVE.
Not the easy kind.
The hard, messy, exhausting, beautiful kind.
The kind that changes lives — even when you never see the results.
But here's what I need you to hear today:
You cannot keep pouring from an empty cup.
Loving your students well starts with loving YOURSELF first.
Setting boundaries is love.
Asking for help is love.
Taking a break is love.
Protecting your peace is love.
So this Valentine's Day — give yourself the gift of support.

Books, Not Chairs
I've had books thrown at me.
Multiple times. By multiple students.
(Luckily for me, I can move out the way pretty quickly.)
People always ask: "How did you not quit?"
Honestly? Some days I don't know.
Because it wasn't just the books.
It was the cursing. The refusals. The meltdowns. The aggression toward other students. The constant disruption. The IEP meetings where parents were rightfully frustrated and I had no good answers. The admin who asked why I couldn't "just manage my classroom better."
It was exhausting in a way that's hard to explain to people outside education.
You're not just teaching content.
You're managing trauma. De-escalating crises. Being a therapist without training. Being a social worker without resources. Being a parent to kids whose parents are overwhelmed themselves.
And you're doing it all while people say:
"Must be nice to have summers off!"
Here's what kept me from quitting:
Understanding that the behavior wasn't about me.
That student who threw the book? He wasn't mad at me. He was dysregulated. Overwhelmed. Unable to communicate what he needed.
But you know what almost made me quit?
Not having support for myself.
Because I could handle the books being thrown.
What I couldn't handle was being expected to handle it alone.
To every teacher dealing with aggressive, defiant, "impossible" students:
You're not failing them.
The system is failing you both.
Those students need support. And so do you.
It's not either/or. It's both.

WHO I AM
I'm Nicole Bradley, M.Ed., and I've spent the last 30+ years working with students everyone else gave up on.
My journey:
🎓 Started as a therapist - 7 years providing individual, family, and group therapy. I worked with kids in crisis, families in chaos, and systems that were failing them.
📚 Became an educator - 20+ years specializing in students with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities. I was the teacher who got the students no one else could handle.
You know the ones I'm talking about:
The students who'd been suspended 10+ times
The ones who made veteran teachers cry
The ones everyone whispered about in the staff room
The ones whose files were 3 inches thick (all disciplinary reports)
The "last resort" cases
That was my specialty.
👥 Spent 5 years as a co-teacher - I didn't just observe teachers struggling with difficult behaviors. I stood RIGHT BESIDE THEM in their classrooms. In Gary, Indiana schools—some of the most under-resourced, highest-need schools you can imagine.
I saw their exhaustion up close. I felt their frustration. I watched amazing teachers question whether they were "cut out for this."
And I learned something critical:
The teachers who were "struggling" weren't bad teachers. They were dealing with students who needed MORE than traditional methods could offer—and they didn't have the support, strategies, or emotional backup to handle it.
