Gregory is a distinguished astronaut who served as pilot on STS-51B and commander on STS-33 and STS-44, logging more than 455 hours in space. In 2002, he became NASA’s first African American Deputy Administrator.

Introducing 2025 Astronaut Scholar Charlie Fioriglio from Washington University in St. Louis!

Charlie is earning degrees in both Chemistry and Physics and works on improving computational models of photodetachment. He tries to understand the anomalous results of shining a laser through a gas. Specifically, he has been studying vibronic coupling effects and continuum treatments. After graduating, he plans to begin his Ph.D. in either physical/theoretical chemistry or atomic physics.
