Thank you so much Tara Dominis for the book and the ever-needed dry erase markers! I actually did a focus group last night on dry erase markers and we raved for nearly an hour about how great these particular markers are, lol. Thank you so so so much for your support of my classroom!

I had a great birthday today! Slept in late, had lunch with the kiddo, Mom and Dad treated me to a bunch of much needed new clothes, had an absolutely delicious steak dinner with the fam, did some more shopping with Julianne. Got lots of wonderful birthday wishes (working my way through them all, I promise I’ll get to yours if I haven’t yet!). Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy day! 43 is a going to be a great year!

P.S. if you still want to get me a birthday gift (😉) the only thing I want is stuff for my students and I to make next year a successful one. As always, we appreciate any support! Thank you!

It’s that time of year when I throw myself at the mercy of my friends and family and ask for help supplying my classroom yet again! I’ll be moving to fifth grade this year and now that I know where I’m starting my year I actually know what I’ll need! If you can help I’d be eternally grateful and even if you can’t, thanks for looking!

Two more boys today! Barry and Gary will be released tomorrow when it’s not raining, so for tonight they’re hanging out in their enclosure enjoying an orange slice.🍊

Two more babies today! A male and a female, Larry and Harry (short for Harriet)! Right before they eclose, their chrysalis turns black/clear and you can see through it. It’s super amazing!

Just call me Ms. Kubec, the Butterfly Rancher! We now have SIX chrysalids! Harry, Larry, Terry, Perry, Barry and Sherry are all well on their way to becoming beautiful and I’m super excited to show my students on Monday morning! Mary, Gary, Kerry, and Ed are still munching (I think I have a Fred and Ed in there too, but they’re camera shy!)

It’s go time!
Larry and Harry turned into chrysalids today while I was at work! Perry is close behind... he’s crawling around the roof of the butterfly cage, looking for the perfect spot. I can’t wait till we have a bunch of beautiful butterflies!

It’s been a busy weekend and Butterflylandia! Larry made his way to the top of the cage and I’m hoping for a chrysalis in the next day or two! I noticed a new baby munching some leaves at the bottom of the plant (say hello to Kerry!) and I discovered a new hatchling! Everybody meet Ed!

These fatty fattersons completely stripped their milkweed plant overnight, and I’m pretty sure they doubled in size! So I stopped by a plant nursery today that doesn’t use pesticides, and picked up two new milkweed plants. Got all the way home before I realized that the plants had newly hatched caterpillars and about a dozen more eggs on the leaves! So exciting! Caterpillars for dayzzzzzxzz!

Meet our new class pets! Sally Ride the hermit crab, and Larry, Terry, Perry, Harry, Sherry, and Mary the monarch caterpillars! 🐛 First grade lost their minds with excitement this afternoon taking about and drawing the butterfly life cycle!

And we’re back!!!
Our first day back with Face-To-Face instruction! We only had about 1/3 of our regular kids (the rest are still doing digital instruction) so it wasn’t quite the same, but it sure did feel good to see little faces and to have them in my room after 6 months! This year sure will be different, trying to figure out how to do STEM projects in a blended model, but we’ll make it work!

Our kids are studying animal adaptations, so we did a lab where every child was an animal trying to drink water with a different adaptation - they either had a fork, a straw, or a sponge. They had a blast trying to be the first one to fill up their cups!
