Awareness is the easy part.
Every May, the feeds fill up with green ribbons and "it's okay to not be okay" posts. All good. All true.

But for the people whose mental health condition isn't responding to standard care, awareness alone doesn't open the next door.

Access does.

Access to a clinical trial that fits their geography, their schedule, their language, their lived experience.
Access to a screener that doesn't make them feel like a checkbox.
Access to a coordinator who returns the call when they're brave enough to make it.
The gap between "awareness" and "access" is where mental health research lives. It's where representation still falls short. It's where rural patients, patients of color, low income patients, and patients who can't take time off work get left out of the science that should serve them.

A question we often get: Do I have to stop seeing my regular doctor if I join a clinical trial?

The short answer, No. Participating in a clinical trial does not mean leaving behind the healthcare team you already trust.

In many cases, the study team works alongside your regular care team to help make sure your overall health stays the priority. Clinical research should feel clear, supported, and informed from the beginning.

Joining a study is a personal decision, and asking questions is part of that process. You deserve to understand who is involved, what to expect, and how your care will be handled.

Medicine should work for the people taking it. But if clinical trials only include one type of person, we only know how treatments work for that one group. Representation in research is how we build better healthcare for all communities.

Before you ever join a clinical trial, you go through a process called informed consent. It means you get all the facts, the risks, the benefits, and the expectations upfront.

Save this post for the next time someone asks you about clinical trials. You ask the questions. You hold the power.

Think clinical trials are only for people who have run out of options? That is one of the most common myths out there. Many studies are actually looking for healthy volunteers or people in early stages of a condition to help prevent disease before it starts. Research is about the future of health for everyone, not just people in crisis.

Have you ever wondered who clinical research is really for?
The truth is, research only works when it reflects real people. Different ages. Different backgrounds. Different lived experiences.

When clinical trials include diverse communities, the results are stronger, safer, and more meaningful for everyone. Representation in research is not just a nice idea. It directly impacts how future treatments work in the real world.

At 1nHealth , we believe research should feel accessible, respectful, and transparent. You deserve clear information so you can make informed choices about your health.

When research sites are supported, everything runs better for the people who matter most patients.
Meet Katie Riker, our enrollment operations manager. Katie works behind the scenes to help sites stay organized, supported, and focused so patients feel informed and cared for from their first visit through their last.
The work she does may not always be visible, but it plays a big role in creating better experiences and stronger clinical research.

Not all heroes wear lab coats.

Some are the people who say “yes” to a study so that someone else’s diagnosis might come with more options than theirs did.
Some join for their kids.
Some join for their future self.
Some join for people they’ll never meet.

However you show up, choosing to participate in research is a real act of courage. If you’ve ever taken part in a study, feel free to drop a 💚 so we can thank you.

Behind every clinical study is a real team working to make research more accessible and more human.

People like Tia help connect patients with care options they may not have known were available while keeping studies moving forward with care and intention. It’s work that takes coordination trust and a lot of listening.

As research continues to grow and evolve the mission stays the same helping patients feel informed supported and respected every step of the way.

Because better research starts with people who care about the experience not just the outcome 💚
