Here a just a few reason why the student-leaders of Y4C have decided to work on drop-out prevention efforts at their HS. Statistics For High School Drop-Outs:
•HS dropouts die sooner. On average, drop-outs have a life span that is 9 years shorter than HS graduates.
•Dropouts are more likely to face poverty, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Typically HS dropouts earn $10,000 less/yr. than HS graduates and a million $ less over their lifetime than college grads.
•Drop-outs are more likely to end-up incarcerated. Nationally, 75 % of prison & jail inmates are HS dropouts.
(If U are a HS student, read these statistics & re-consider dropping-out. If U are a former HS drop-out, consider enrolling in a program to obtain your diploma or G.E.D.)

The leaders of Y4C have surveyed nearly 350 of their peers at ORHS and voted to work on the most ranked issue for the next campaign, which is drop-out prevention and college/career readiness. We will be working with educators, policy organizations, direct service organizations, parents, and public officials to address these issues over the next year. Stay tuned!
Current and Y4C Alumni members, there will be an informative workshop at ORHS today during Y4C's meeting regarding DACA clinics and how it's possible for those of you as well as family members that are undocumented to apply for things like work permits. Please arrive no later than 3pm to catch the information.
Congratulations Guensly Louis, Jarlyn Tejada, Jerry Magadan, & Mia Joseph on being selected for the 2013 Y4C Summer Internship Program. We looking forward to working with you at FOCUS!
Y4C leaders are headed to their yearly leadership retreat in Cocoa Beach to discuss important things like education, collaboration with other organizations, & leadership. Pictures coming soon!
