This past weekend, HYPE students visited SC State University for a college tour and got an inside look at life on campus. Before exploring campus, students from Columbia Kappa League, Hampton High School, Carvers Bay High School, Jack & Jill of Charlotte and 4-H Pinckney Leaders connected with SC State’s 1890 Agriculture Innovation Scholars.

The scholars shared their college experiences, offered advice for navigating college life and encouraged students to start thinking about their own paths to higher education.

Experiences like these help students see what’s possible and envision themselves on a college campus. 🎓

Thank you to everyone who joined us this past weekend for Youth, ROTC and Military Appreciation Day at SC State University!

Youth from across our Extension regions came together for an unforgettable day of fun, music and community — enjoying performances from our sororities and fraternities, the SC State Cheerleading Team, the Marching 101 Band, and games and activities in the 4-H Zone, all while cheering on the SC State Bulldogs vs. The Citadel Bulldogs! 🏈

Williston-Elko Middle School scholars recently completed a six-week SC State 1890 Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), led by I’Ayana Sanders, EFNEP educator and data specialist.

Throughout the program, scholars explored healthy eating, MyPlate, food safety, portion sizes, sugar, fats and strategies for making healthier food choices. They also participated in engaging, hands-on activities and prepared simple, healthy recipes, giving them the opportunity to put their nutrition knowledge into practice.

Through programs like EFNEP, SC State Public Service & Agriculture continues to provide youth with meaningful learning experiences that support healthy choices and lifelong well-being. 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

Students from Carver-Edisto Middle School visited the 1890 Research & Demonstration Farm for a hands-on look at agriculture, innovation and the role of artificial intelligence in today’s agricultural industry.

SC State Public Service & Agriculture is proud to partner with Freewoods Farm as it begins a new chapter focused on preserving and sharing the history of African American life, agriculture and community after emancipation.

Join us on Friday, Oct. 16, 2026 from 10 a.m. to noon as we honor the legacy of Freewoods Farm and celebrate the work ahead to preserve its history and carry its mission forward.

Save the date for SC State 1890 Research & Extension’s Mind Matters: Advancing Mental Wellness Conference. 🧠

The conference will focus on education, connection and stress-reducing strategies for healthy living. Participants will explore the importance of mental wellness through informative presentations, meaningful discussions and hands-on activities designed to support stress management, resilience and overall well-being.

Coastal Region (Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester and Georgetown counties): Dec. 5, 2026 | 9 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
