Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when news of freedom reached the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas. Twenty-five years later, the Second Morrill Act of 1890 opened the doors of 19 land-grant universities to educate the generation that emancipation had set free.

Today, SC State Public Service & Agriculture honors the legacy of Juneteenth and the mission of the 1890 land-grant institutions by advancing education, research and outreach that empower individuals, families and communities across South Carolina. 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

Yesterday, SC State 1890 Research & Extension and the St. George Rosenwald School signed a memorandum of understanding to expand educational opportunities and community resources throughout Dorchester County.

The celebration also marked the ribbon cutting of the Rosenwald Innovation and Learning Laboratory, a new 12-station computer lab designed to increase access to technology and educational resources for local residents.

Through this partnership, SC State 1890 Extension's Coastal Region will deliver research-based programs in youth leadership, STEM education, nutrition, financial literacy, small-business development and agriculture.
