Every year at the Beloved Festival of Culture, we honor a faculty, staff, or community member with the Di Murphy Multicultural Inspiration Award.

The award, which began in 2007, is named after Di Murphy, former President Bruce Murphy’s wife. She was a huge supporter and inspiration for the Intercultural program at NWC. In honor of Di Murphy, we award this to a community or faculty/staff member who continues her legacy of demonstrating and facilitating a sense of belonging among students and actively contributing to our diversity efforts.

This year’s awardee is Dr. Valerie M Stokes! Dr. Stokes frequently collaborates with our office and checks in on our staff and students. With her passion in social work and her role as the chair of the Northwestern Social Work Department, she has been a constant supporter of our advocacy. Her valuable efforts to upholding belonging both on and off campus have not gone unnoticed.

Thank you for all that you do, Dr. Stokes! Congratulations!
