Honoring Professor Emeritus Dr. Jerold Simmons, this scholarship recognizes his distinguished career, his legacy in the fields film history and constitutional history, and his commitment to advancing public history.
Who can apply?
✔️ History majors with Junior standing or higher
✔️ Minimum 2.5 GPA
✔️ Short essay (max 1,000 words) demonstrating your interest in:
• Public History or
• Film History or
• Constitutional History or
• Pursuing graduate study/work in History

⭐ Scholarship Spotlight: Timothy S. Dunning Scholarship
The Department of History is honored to offer the Timothy S. Dunning Scholarship. Established in memory of former UNO undergraduate Timothy Dunning, this scholarship is awarded each year to an outstanding undergraduate majoring in History.
Award Details
- Provides up to $12,500
- May be used for any expense related to attendance at UNO
- Open to one History major each academic year
Eligibility Requirements
- Be a History major in good standing
- Hold junior or senior status
- Have a 3.0 GPA or higher

A few more days to apply for the Sam and Frances Fried Holocaust and Genocide Academy's Holocaust and Genocide Studies Teacher Workshop to be held on April 19, 2026! It is ideal for anyone who will teach or is teaching the Holocaust and/or other genocides. Details below.
This workshop is free and capped at 30 participants. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a $200 stipend and a certificate of completion.
