It is officially the end of an incredible chapter…
Sam has retired from Custom Diesel Drivers Training.
And honestly, this is one amazing full-circle story.
Back in 2015, Sam walked through the doors of CDDT as a student with a goal of earning his Class A CDL. He put in the work, graduated, and entered the trucking industry where he spent the next six years over the road driving for multiple companies and building real-world experience.
During that time, Ken and Sam built a strong relationship. Ken instructed Sam during school, but also throughout his trucking career with guidance and job placement opportunities. Over the years, one question kept coming up:
“Sam… when are you coming home to help me help them?”
At first, Sam wasn’t ready. He loved trucking and the life he had built on the road. But one day Ken asked him again, and after talking it over with his wife Kim, Sam finally said yes.
That decision changed lives.
Sam started at CDDT as an instructor. From there, he moved into recruiting and eventually became the Assistant Director, the position he is now retiring from.
In just under four years of working at CDDT, Sam became far more than an employee. He became a leader, mentor, motivator, and a major part of the foundation that helped shape the future of over 970 new CDL drivers.
Think about that for a second.
Over 970 people walked into this industry better prepared because of Sam. He helped students from the classroom, to the training range, to graduation, to job placement, and even into their careers afterward. He helped build confidence in people who doubted themselves. He helped companies grow with quality drivers. He helped families create better futures.
That impact cannot be measured by numbers alone.
Sam wasn’t just part of the growth of CDDT… he helped shape it.
Now Sam and Kim begin a new journey together: retirement. They’re going to travel this great nation and enjoy the life they both worked so hard to build. And honestly, nobody deserves it more.
The good news? Sam says he’d still like to help as a part-time fill-in instructor down the road. But for now, it’s time for him to relax, enjoy retirement, and make memories with his wife.
We are truly blessed and grateful that out of all the places Sam could have finished his career, he chose to retire where it all started…
