Volunteers Needed – Mobile Diabetes Screening Event
NMC is looking for volunteers to help with a Mobile Diabetes Screening event next week at the Asian Community and Cultural Center in Lincoln. This event will serve members of Lincoln’s refugee and immigrant communities and help expand access to preventive health services in a trusted community setting.
Many individuals in refugee and immigrant communities face barriers to routine healthcare, such as transportation, language access, insurance coverage, and navigating complex health systems. Community-based screening events like this help bridge those gaps by bringing education, early detection, and supportive care directly to where people already gather for resources and connection.

NMC Alumni! Here is an amazing opportunity to serve your alma mater.
The cardiovascular sonography program at NMC are looking for vascular and heart ultrasound volunteers! The ultrasounds are performed by first year NMC students under the supervision of a registered sonographer. Each session is one hour in length. With your help, students can practice their ultrasound skills. It’s extremely beneficial for our students to interact with volunteers and to scan individuals beyond their classmates. These ultrasound exams are for practice purposes only, no results will be given at these sessions.
All practice ultrasounds will be performed at Nebraska Methodist College. The sonography lab is located down the hill from main campus at 501 N. 87th Street. I have attached a map of the location. A student will meet you at the SOUTH locked entrance of the building (marked by the star on the map; door closest to Dodge St.).
**Feel free to share with family and friends (must be 19 years of age and older)**
*Prior to your volunteer time, you will receive a reminder email from me. Please check your junk/spam folder if you don’t see this email.
1. Echocardiogram: an ultrasound exam that images the heart in various locations on the chest (center of the chest, left side under the left breast, and in the stomach looking up at the heart). Each volunteer will be asked to remove clothing from the waist up and put on a provided gown. The volunteer will remain covered at all times. The volunteer will be asked to lay on their left side and/or flat on their back for the exam.

The sonography student will begin to image high in the leg and scan down to the ankle. The volunteer will be covered with a sheet/blanket when not being imaged.
Carotid ultrasounds: an ultrasound that images the arteries in the neck. The volunteers will be asked to lay on their back and turn their head to left and right positions. The sonography student will image the neck region with varying positions.
