From medical school milestones to raising their daughter Parker along the way, Brianna Werner and Clay Oliver are beginning their next chapter as .

After graduating from the Creighton University School of Medicine, both will continue their residency training with Creighton in Phoenix. Bri will pursue Anesthesiology while Clay continues in Preliminary Internal Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology.

They say Creighton prepared them not only through rigorous clinical training, but by teaching them the importance of exceptional bedside manner and caring for the whole person.

As they begin residency and continue growing their family together, Bri and Clay are excited to stay part of the Creighton community and continue the journey they started here.

“SASA is where I feel seen.” 💙

For recent graduate Soumya Monga, the South Asian Student Association (SASA) became a place where she could celebrate her culture, build lasting friendships and find community during her time at Creighton.

SASA brings students together through events and celebrations centered around South Asian traditions and holidays, helping foster cultural awareness, inclusivity and meaningful connection across campus. One of Soumya’s favorite memories was this spring’s Holi celebration, where students came together to celebrate, have fun and share a piece of South Asian culture with the Creighton community.

“This organization has given me a place where I can feel at home away from home,” Soumya said. “I've gained a community that lets me be my authentic self, where I can share my culture and learn from others around me.”

Organizations like SASA help make Creighton a place where students can feel seen, supported and celebrated for who they are.

Four years of growth, friendships, memories and hard work led to this moment.

James Silva’s first-generation journey began at Jesuit Academy and continued through Creighton Preparatory School to Creighton University Heider College of Business.

Along the way, a foundation of Jesuit values and a strong community of support helped guide his path.

“I thank the Lord every day that I am able to be here,” he says. “That mindset pushed me out of my comfort zone to learn things on my own and keep striving to be the best I can be.”

At Creighton, that growth has taken shape through hands-on experiences, including internships and real-world opportunities and support through TRIO Student Support Services and the Heider Family Foundation.

Now, the senior financial analysis and marketing student is focused on more than personal success—he’s committed to paying it forward as a man for and with others, supporting those who come next.

Creighton’s recognition as a FirstGen Forward Network Champion holds special meaning for James, too.

“It demonstrates that students of first-generation backgrounds like myself are recognized, supported and provided with tangible opportunities,” he says.
