Falls from elevation remain one of the leading causes of death in construction, accounting for 389 of the 1,034 fatalities reported in 2024 (according to BLS data). These deaths are preventable. During National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction Week, take time to evaluate fall hazards on your job sites, reinforce proper use of fall protection, and engage your crews in conversations about working safely at heights. Simple actions like inspecting equipment, verifying anchor points, and ensuring workers are trained and equipped can significantly reduce risk and save lives. Visit https://www.osha.gov/stop-falls-stand-down for more resources and to receive a certificate of participation.

Rising temperatures mean rising risk, and heat-related illnesses can escalate faster than most people realize. Learn the signs and what to do for heatstroke this National Heatstroke Prevention Day.
A body temperature above 103°F, hot or red skin, confusion, dizziness, nausea, rapid pulse, and loss of consciousness are all red flags. Unlike heat exhaustion, sweating may stop, making the skin feel dry to the touch.
Heatstroke can cause organ damage, brain injury, and even death if emergency action isn't taken. Call 911 immediately, move the person to a cooler place, and begin cooling them with water, ice, or cold cloths until help arrives.
Prevention matters. Stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade or air conditioning, wear lightweight clothing, and never leave children or pets in a parked car. A few simple steps can make the difference between a hot day and a dangerous one.
