What happens when identity appreciation meets education? Dr. DérNecia Phillips is building what's NEXT!
As founder of Identity Preparatory Academy, a forthcoming school for girls in North Omaha,
Dr. Phillips is challenging the status quo of education by centering the appreciation of identity, community, and culture.
An educator, coach, and poet, she's on a mission to amplify Black girl voices and nurture impactful learning spaces. At TEDx Omaha 2025, she'll share how appreciation of identity in education can shape our future.

🎓 Tomorrow, Learning for ALL will host our first-ever GED graduation ceremony — and we’re honored to welcome Dr. DérNecia Phillips as our keynote speaker! Dr. Phillips previously conducted a program evaluation for our GED program as part of her doctoral dissertation. Her insights played a major role in helping us improve and better support our students on their path to graduation.
Dr. DérNecia Phillips is a professional educator, activist, and poet who prides herself on being a champion for education, community, and justice. She has 20 years of experience as a public and non-public school educator with service in roles from teacher to principal to principal coach. She holds advanced degrees from Creighton University and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she received her doctorate in Educational Leadership. Dr. Phillips leveraged her expertise to found DAL Education & Care Solutions LLC, a consulting company focused on the support and development of leaders, schools, and organizations. She is a strong advocate for education, mentoring, community, and culture—as evidenced by her current work as founder of Identity Preparatory Academy--a forthcoming middle school for girls in the North Omaha community.

Dr. DerNecia Phillips will be presenting at the 2024 Civil Rights Conference hosted by the Lincoln Commission on Human Rights tomorrow to delve into the Civil Rights of Black women and girls as it relates to in schools and the workplace!
What a critical time to speak on such a pressing topic promoting the human dignity we all deserve, yet do not all receive!
