Tom Kelly, director of Academic Service Learning, presented on his service learning community evaluation project with medical students at the PUCMM, the Catholic University in Santiago, Dominican Republic. It was a year-long research project that created diagnostic instruments to measure community well-being.

Community Evaluation Project The professors of Creighton University together with the ILAC Mission and the PUCMM School of Medicine conducted sociodemographic studies in Vaca Gorda, Partido and in Gurabito de Yaroa. This study consisted of surveys and interviews in order to find the strengths and weaknesses of the communities and look for sustainable solutions. The community evaluation project, Vaca Gorda data summary, was presented at the ILAC mission to the health cooperators on Tuesday, August 7. Dr. Thomas Kelly, Dr. Caron Gray, Dr. Kate Nolt, ILAC-Creighton Director Andrea Montoya, Jacquie Marte, 6 students from Creighton University, together with ILAC Mission and 8 students from PUCMM School of Medicine:Marlin Espinal, Maria Angeles Chaplain, Judith Vasquez, Xavier De Peña, Melissa Urena, Nelson Diaz, Luisa Brito and Moisés Santana. ********************* Proyecto de Evaluación Comunal. Los profesores de Creighton University junto con Misión ILAC y La Escuela de Medicina de PUCMM realizaron estudios sociodemográficos en Vaca Gorda, Partido y en Gurabito de Yaroa. Este estudio consistió en encuestas y entrevistas con el fin de encontrar las fortalezas y debilidades de las comunidades y buscar soluciones sostenibles. El proyecto de evaluación comunal, sumario de data de Vaca Gorda fue presentado en Misión ILAC a los cooperadores de salud el pasado martes 7 de Agosto.
