Hello from Dr. PawKaMwee Restoring-Vitality
05/23/2026
On this meaningful occasion of the 37th Anniversary of the re-establishment of the Karen Youth Organization (KYO), we proudly honor the history, sacrifices, and contributions of Karen youth who have continued to stand for our people, identity, and future.
Since its re-establishment on 23 May 1989 in Manerplaw, KYO has played an important role in nurturing and empowering new generations of Karen youth within the Karen movement and community.
Today, we would like to encourage Karen youth all over the world:
• Be proud of who you are and never forget your Karen identity, language, culture, and history.
• Stay united and support one another despite differences and distance.
• Continue learning, growing, and becoming responsible leaders for our community and future generations.
• Believe in your potential and strive to become the best version of yourselves.
• Carry forward the spirit of courage, dignity, and service to our people.
The future of the Karen nation depends on the strength, wisdom, and unity of today’s youth. Let us move forward together with hope, resilience, and determination.
“Eliminate the Slavery Mindset, Building for Future Karen Descendants” – KYO Motto
Happy Karen Youth Organization Day!
Brief History of Karen Youth Organization (KYO)
“The Karen Youth Organization (KYO) was established on 15 December 1945 with the objective of encouraging the participation of Karen youth in the Karen national movement. It also played a significant role as one of the collective groups during the formation of the Karen National Union (KNU). However, in the subsequent years, the role and visibility of KYO in the history of the Karen revolutionary movement gradually declined.
In 1989, in an effort to promote the emergence of a new generation of Karen youth within the Karen revolutionary movement, the Karen Youth Organization (KYO) was revitalized and formally re-established on 23 May 1989 in Menerplaw. Today, 23 May 2026 marks the 37th anniversary of the re-establishment of the Karen Youth Organization.” – Karen Youth Organization (KYO), 2026.

We are excited to have Ku Hser Hser Gay join us this summer in Kawthoolei!
"Hello everyone! My name is Ku Hser Hser Gay. I’m a second-year student at Vanderbilt University majoring in Political Science and Child Development. With this opportunity to return for the first time, I look forward to learning from those that continue to dedicate themselves to Knyaw advocacy and growth, while also being able to support the missions of local organizations. From bridging meaningful conversations to new experiences, I’m hopeful that it’ll provide me with insights into how we can all support our Knyaw communities around the world."
