Protecting and perfecting the views to and from America’s most magnificent Capitol setting.

The Olympia Capitol Park Foundation was established in 2008 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. The Capitol-Olympic Vista Park is our #1 project for the foreseeable future.

Through our parallel organization, the Olympia Isthmus Park Association, we participated in the debate in Olympia over a developer’s proposal to erect very large commercial and residential buildings on the Isthmus. This project required a zoning change to raise the height limits from 35 feet to 90 feet (plus 12 feet or so for rooftop equipment sheds). A successful citizens’ initiative garnered nearly 5000 signatures to force the city to study building a park on the Isthmus; that study concluded that the park was feasible, provided that all of the partners came together to make it happen. The City restored the prior 35 foot height limit in February 2010, and made the Isthmus Park part of the city’s future Parks Plan in August 2010.
