Holy Asperge ~ A Perfumed Cleansing & Protection Water
Limited Annual Offering
"Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean." — Psalms 51:7
Our well ltoved Holy Asperge has returned after a two-year absence.
This offering is crafted only once each year under the auspices of the collection of Holy Water. Traditionally, the first rain following Beltane is regarded as holy and blessed. This year's rains arrived weeks later than expected and were gathered at their appointed time, then alchemically elevated through distillation, creating a second hermetically sealed rain within the vessel itself. This sacred water was then united with perfumes of Rue, Hyssop, and Rosemary.
Rue, Hyssop, and Rosemary are among the most revered herbs of folklore and magical practice, long employed in rites of purification, protection, blessing, and exorcism. Work with this asperge in spiritual cleansings and ritual baths, to consecrate and protect ritual tools and spaces, dispel unwanted influences, remove baneful workings, and banish phantoms of illusion.
To asperge is the sacred act of sprinkling consecrated water upon an altar, place, object, or person. Traditionally this is performed with a fresh sprig of greenery or with a ritual sprinkler known as an aspergillum, a tool still commonly employed within the Catholic Church today.
As noted in The Key of Solomon the King, Book II, the traditional Aspergillum is fashioned from nine sacred herbs—Vervain, Fennel, Lavender, Sage, Valerian, Mint, Basil, Rosemary, and Hyssop—gathered during the Day and Hour of Mercury and bound together with thread spun by a young maiden.
While honoring this tradition, we believe that any suitable sprig chosen by the practitioner—particularly one of the plants contained within this formula—may serve as a worthy instrument for ritual asperging.
