“To be the smile on the face of every Queenians.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Following is the closing address by the outgoing President of Student Council, Cheung Sum-lik, at the Inauguration Ceremony of Queen's College 29th Student Council at School Hall on October 4:
“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.”
Good morning.
A year ago, eleven brothers and I have taken our role as the executive member of the student council. With dedication and aspiration, we chased our dream. We tried to serve, and to inspire. Most importantly, we tried our best to play our roles.
But like players, we all have our entrances and exits. Time fleets and exit we now, with fond memories and long-lasting friendships gained. While it’s time for the twelve of us to leave this stage, it’s also the beginning of these twelve boys behind us.
Indeed, every role, every play is transient. But what stays eventually, and what values the most is the things happened in between.
We all have our roles to play; may you be members of the Student Council, prefects or peer counselors. The part you contribute totally depends on your own choice. But no matter in which position you are, always remember the reason why you are here, and why you are needed here. Constantly stop and question yourselves whether you have truly been striving towards your goals, and whether you have fully been committing to your own responsibilities.
Granted we all as players, it is all up to us to write our own scripts. Whether or not the play is fascinating, it totally depends on what you do on the stage, on what you decide to include in the script. Therefore, be visionary. Always have the courage to innovate and to attempt, for you are here to improve.
On our last note, a few lines from Dejan Stojanovic may well conclude:
“To be a lantern in the darkness
Or an umbrella in a stormy day;
To be the eyes of an eagle, slope of a mountain;
To be a wave understanding the influence of the moon;
To be a tree and read the memory of the leaves;
And most importantly, to be the smile on the face of every Queenians.
And shine in all our memories.
As we are here to uphold the glory of our alma mater.”
