Thank you for your continuing prayers for us this week.

O God,… we thank Thee for Thy Church, founded upon Thy Word, that challenges us to do more than sing and pray, but go out and work as though the very answer to our prayers depended on us and not upon Thee… Help us to realize that man was created to shine like the stars and live on through all eternity. Keep us, we pray, in perfect peace, help us to walk together, pray together, sing together, and live together until that day when all God’s children, Black, White, Red, and Yellow, will rejoice in one common band of humanity in the kingdom of our Lord and of our God, we pray. Amen.

In light of yesterday’s events at the nation’s capital, I feel heavy hearted as I am remind of Jesus’s teaching in Matthew 5 on revenge, loving enemies, and loving money. Are we called to go the extra mile? Are we called to pray for those who seek to attack the foundations of our faith? Are we called to focus on the needy and turn from the greedy?
Christ make this clear as he sheds light on the OT laws...

“Do not twist justice in legal matters by favoring the poor or being partial to the rich and powerful. Always judge people fairly. Do not spread slanderous gossip among your people. Do not stand idly by when your neighbor’s life is threatened. I am the Lord. Do not nurse hatred in your heart for any of your relatives. Confront people directly so you will not be held guilty for their sin. Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against a fellow Israelite, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.”
‭‭(Leviticus‬ ‭19:15-18‬)

We are called as Christians to be focused on justice and mercy. We are called to live out the character of Christ not incite violence. We are called to be perfect in character, holiness, maturity and love.

We are called to prayer... the Lord’s Prayer - hallowing His name, seeking His kingdom values, daily provision for all those in need, forgiveness of trespasses, and guidance to walk in righteousness and not give in to the temptations of the evil one - anger, arrogance, selfishness, greed, idolatry, discord, hatred, murder, lying, and cheating.

May our leaders represent and model for us the character of Christ in every way possible. May Christians unite in condemnation of those who do otherwise and lead others to follow their example rather than His. May this be a season of prayer, reflection, redemption, restoration, reconciliation and revitalization of Christ’s core teachings in His sermon on the mount.

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. I’ve promised it once, and I’ll promise it again: I will obey your righteous regulations. I have suffered much, O Lord; restore my life again as you promised. Lord, accept my offering of praise, and teach me your regulations. My life constantly hangs in the balance, but I will not stop obeying your instructions. The wicked have set their traps for me, but I will not turn from your commandments. Your laws are my treasure; they are my heart’s delight. I am determined to keep your decrees to the very end.”

“Let your face smile on us, Lord. You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine.” (Psalms‬ ‭4:6-7‬)

God alone grants us joy, peace, and security. He sets us apart when we call to Him and seek His guidance and direction through difficult times. Jesus reminds us we are to be salt and light to those around us by being a beacon of His truth. We are of little value if we become like the world around us. We are called and commissioned to draw others into the fullness of relationship with Christ, helping them to recognize Him as their Lord and Savior.

“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” (Matthew‬ ‭5:16‬)

We are not to build monuments to ourselves or guide others to worthless idols - power, authority, fame, or wealth. Instead, we are called to be a living example of Christ’s beatitudes in Matthew 5 - loving and caring for others with compassion and mercy.

Let us take the time to abide and align to gain God’s understanding as we walk the path in life He gives us. Doing so, He will hold our hands and keep us on the walkway of wisdom.

“Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance.” (‭Proverbs‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ NLT)

How will you seek His guidance today to give you direction and understanding?

Just One Request
Dear Master for this coming year
Just one request I bring:
I do not pray for happiness,
Or any earthly thing—
I do not ask to understand
The way Thou leadest me,
But this I ask: Teach me to do
The thing that pleaseth Thee.
I want to know Thy guiding voice,
To walk with Thee each day.
Dear Master make me swift to hear
And ready to obey.
And thus the year I now begin
A happy year will be—
If I am seeking just to do
The thing that pleaseth Thee.

Praying for all the men the Lord has brought into my life over years' past and for those He will bring in the year ahead. May each of us be strengthened by the other. I praise God for the accountability that comes with men of godly character throughout my life. Two men locked in battle together with the Holy Spirit linking their armor for battle can be a powerful force when fighting the battles that come with work, ministry, marriage and parenthood!!

"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." (Ecclesiastes 4:12)

Wishing everyone a blessed Thanksgiving! For many of us this year, thanksgiving will be different with less gathering together. Help us to see the possibilities that exist beyond the problems. Plant seeds of joy in our hearts for those we love. Let us give praise for how You are at work and worship You for Your divine hand upon us. Guide us and give us confidence and courage to walk steadfast in this season of turmoil. LORD, may we see with the eyes of Christ and be filled with the Spirit to connect with others in love.

“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” (Colossians‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

“I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference. Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne. Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying...”
