Love this! Every child is different!
What time should my 3 or 4 year old go to bed?! 😴
I had a few requests for this chart in my last post so figure it would be time for a re-share!
This age can be SO tricky because bedtime can look completely different depending on whether your child napped that day and how long that nap was!
A 3-year-old who skipped their nap may be ready for bed surprisingly early, while that same child might need significantly more awake time before bed after a solid afternoon nap.
So instead of choosing one bedtime and sticking to it no matter what happened during the day, I like to let morning wakeup time + daytime sleep help guide us.
A few things to remember:
💤 These are starting points, not hard-and-fast rules! Some kiddos have higher or lower sleep needs.
💤 The timing of the nap matters too. A later nap will generally mean a later bedtime.
💤 If bedtime is suddenly taking FOREVER, your child may simply not be ready for sleep yet.
💤 If your no-nap kiddo is melting down by dinner, don’t be afraid of an early bedtime!
💤 And if your 3-4 year old is starting to skip naps some days but still desperately needs one on others… welcome to the very glamorous nap-dropping stage! 🥴
SAVE this one for the next time you have no clue what time to get your preschooler to bed! 🐝
