The Healing Ministry of Jesus | Week 4 Devotional Video 03/26/2026

Over the last few weeks, we have looked at healing in the Old Testament and the covenant framework attached to it. Now, we will look at one of the most significant aspects of the New Testament: the Ministry of Jesus.

When Jesus came to the earth he didn’t just teach about God, he revealed Him through miraculous demonstrations of power. Jesus’ life, words, and actions show us what God is like.

Jesus was perfectly obedient to the will of His Father. As a result, his earthly ministry gives us an understanding of the heart of God towards people that are suffering.

When we study the ministry of Jesus, we see that healing was a normal and consistent part of what He did. The miracles he performed revealed the compassion of God towards people and they confirmed that He was in fact the Messiah, as prophesied in the Old Testament.

Most importantly, Jesus showed us what the Kingdom of God looks like when it breaks though into a broken and hurting world. Wherever the Kingdom of God is preached, taught and demonstrated, people are restored. That restoration reaches every part of a person’s life - spirit, soul, and body.

Jesus openly and lovingly invited people to come to Him in their weakness, and with all of their burdens.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28–29

This invitation went beyond physical healing. Jesus is addressing the WHOLE person.

Many people carry deep emotional wounds, mental burdens, and are spiritually exhausted. The rest He offers includes healing for the soul - our mind, our emotions, and our inner life.

The heart of Jesus reflects perfectly what we see about God in the Old Testament: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3).

God cares deeply about people, and His compassion extends to every part of our lives.

Bible Study Devotional | Healing Week 3 | Covenant Context: Old vs. New - Continued 03/04/2026

🔎 Covenant Context: Old vs. New - Continued

When we take the bird’s eye view of healing in both the Old and New Testament, the differences between them are clear:

We see the transition from the Law to the Messiah. From conditional and national blessing to Kingdom manifestation. From the nation of Israel to the global Church. From spiritual office-based mediation to Christ centered authority.

We move from compliance and obedience under the Law to the finished work of Jesus.

In the Old Testament, healing events were very powerful but they were also relatively selective and periodic, being spread out across different centuries.

We see the frequency of healing increase significantly from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant. In the New Testament (new covenant), healing becomes a regular and widespread part of Jesus’ ministry:

“Jesus traveled throughout the region of Galilee, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness.” - Matthew 4:23

Healing was not a rare occurrence in Jesus’ ministry; it was consistent and it was a major part of his ministry. This model also continued through the apostles and the early church.

This week we continue our look at healing in the Bible through covenant context.

See you tomorrow ladies. 💛

🩸 Covenant Context: Old vs. New 🩸

This week we are looking at healing through the lens of covenant.

If we don’t understand the covenant contexts in the Bible, we will misinterpret healing in both Testaments.

The Old and New Covenants are connected, but they are not identical. Healing operates within each of them according to the terms of that covenant...

🩸 Healing in the Bible - Week 1 🩸

Healing in the Old Testament: Where It All Began

This week we are laying the foundation and going back to the beginning.

Before we talk about healing in the New Testament, before we talk about Jesus’ ministry, and before we talk about the authority of the believer today, we have to identify and understand the origination, or genesis, of healing.

Healing did not begin with a revival meeting.
It did not begin with the Apostles.
It did not begin in the Gospels.

Healing originated with God.

The first time healing is clearly mentioned in Scripture is in Genesis 20. Abraham deceived King Abimelech concerning Sarah and sickness and infertility struck Abimelech's household.

The Bible says: “Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, and also healed his wife and female slaves so that they bore children. For the LORD had closed all the wombs of the house of Abimelech because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife.” - Genesis 20:17-18

Abraham prayed and God healed.

From the very beginning, we see that healing is connected to prayer and divine intervention.

God Reveals Himself as Healer:

After the Exodus, in the wilderness of Shur, God formally revealed something about His nature to Israel. He did not just perform healing - He declared Himself to be Healer.

“If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your healer.” - Exodus 15:26

Here we are introduced to the covenant name “Jehovah Rapha” or “The LORD who heals.”

This promise was tied to obedience under the Old Covenant. But it reveals something unchanging about God’s character: healing is part of who He is.

King David understood this intimately.

In Psalm 103, he stirs himself up in worship and remembrance:
“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases.” - Psalm 103:2-3

Notice how forgiveness and healing are mentioned together. David saw both of those things as benefits that came from the covenant mercy of God.

Healing was not presented as a unique or rare act - it was one of God’s redemptive works.

Healing Through Prayer and a Prophetic Instruction:

We also see in the Old Testament that healing followed intercession or a prophetic act of obedience.

Naaman in 2 Kings 5 was a Gentile army commander afflicted with leprosy. The prophet Elisha instructed him to wash in the Jordan, and he was healed when he obeyed.

King Jeroboam in 1 Kings 13 experienced immediate paralysis as judgment but when the prophet prayed for him, his hand was restored instantly.

Even more dramatically, the prophet Elijah cried out to the Lord in 1 Kings 17, and the widow’s son was brought back to life.

We also see a type and shadow emerging through these accounts…

The “man of God” standing between the people and the LORD foreshadows the mediatory role that would ultimately be fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

And we will talk more about that, next week.

Blessings,
Michelle
