Southern Wonder Nature School Southern Wonder Nature School was created to connect kids and their families to nature and to each other.

We are family-oriented, natural science focused and place an emphasis on emergent learning and free play in nature. At Southern Wonder Nature School, we will learn about Alabama’s biodiversity and natural resources by exploring the natural environment to develop a connection to the land, to wildlife and to each other.

It was a busy week here at Southern Wonder Nature School.

We wrapped up our Water Unit Study with our Homeschool Enrichment Program this week. We reviewed everything we had learned about our stream over the past month and talked about how it is connected to the broader Coosa River Watershed. Our older students took a stream walk to where our stream meets Tallasseehatchee Creek. Our younger students did an activity exploring how water flows from one body of water to another. And as always, we enjoyed some water play, along with our Forest Families kids.

The first day of Autumn was on Tuesday and the weather is starting to feel like fall. We had a lovely time on Saturday at our First Annual Harvest Festival and Market. We had some amazing vendors set up and families enjoyed some good ole-fashioned yard games. We played tug-of-war and had a sack race. We are looking forward to making this a yearly tradition to celebrate the beginning of a new season. We hope to see you next year!

We are taking a break from forest school this week. We will be starting back up on October 8th/9th with our Bird Unit Study. We are excited to learn how to identify birds by sight and sound and investigate their habitats.

It's not too late to join us! Registration details in the comments.
