Six years ago, when my husband and I started talking about babies, a friend told me about doulas and the support they give. I loved the idea of having someone by my side to guide me through labor, advocate for me, and help both my husband and I have the best experience possible.
When I became pregnant in 2020, I found Leila, a doula I immediately loved. But with hospital restrictions allowing only one support person, she asked me a question that changed everything: “Have you ever considered a home birth?”
At first, I was unsure. But when she explained that I’d have a midwife providing medical care at home, and that she’d be by my side too, in the comfort of my own home. It suddenly felt like the only way that made sense. My husband was immediately on board, and when I met Estee, a midwife from who had worked closely with Leila, it felt like God’s hand guiding us. We made the switch to home birth—and I never looked back.
From the start, I felt seen, heard, and supported. My first birth was long and exhausting, but when I delivered my baby boy into my husband’s hands and held him on my chest, I was overwhelmed with tears, love, and empowerment. With my second, labor moved much faster than I realized—I labored mostly on my own until my doula arrived, and just 40 minutes later, I delivered our second boy in the birth pool. Both times, I was fed, cared for, and tucked into my own bed with my babies in my arms.
After being blessed with two incredible home births, I knew I wanted other women to know they have options too. Too often, birth is treated like a problem to control instead of the sacred process God designed it to be.
As Jesus said:
“A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.” — John 16:21
This is why I became a birth educator—to help women feel informed, supported, and empowered to write their own birth story.
