It's true there are words that “break the rules” and need to be memorized to read. However, a lot of the words taught to be sight words (words recognized by sight) are perfectly decodable. Instead of drilling students it’s important to teach them to sound out and recognize the phonemes in the simpler words to master harder words later on. Smart readers = Happy readers! 🤓
